DIVISION TWO v West Torrens at West Beach Sat 22.03.25

Lost 0-12

We really looked the part in the early stages, not letting the opposition have a sniff with Declan in control from the hill, and it was not until the fifth that the Eagles posted a run.  We had our chances to score a couple of times, especially when Nathan doubled in the second, and would have had one on the board had not Alfredo been caught stealing just prior.  Our defence was holding up big time with Ryan taking a catch at leftfield and throwing out the runner at the plate.  Dec sat down after five and Greg, Nathan and then Ryan took the ball, but the game changed dramatically in the sixth innings when an almost all-in altercation took place, the footage of which has been examined at length.  It is to be hoped that the powers that be view these tapes and act accordingly.  Our young boys unfortunately seemed to take a little longer than their opponents to settle, and were left behind in their wake.  We wait to see what transpires.  Bad luck in the end, as the guys were looking forward to Grand Finals participation, and we were well and truly poised to pull it off.  Hits  :  Alfredo Rodriguez, Nathan Nicholson, Ryan Straddling, Luke Taylor 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE Grand Final v Sturt at West Beach Sun 23.03.25

Won 12-9

It's probably a much overused phrase, but "a game for the ages" seems to fit this one.  Close all day with multiple lead changes and some superb baseball played by players on both sides, it really went down to the wire, with Alice Brown deservedly gaining MVP honours with a fine effort on the mound over four innings and three hits to boot.  The term "all played well" certainly rings true for this, and the girls, both young and the more experienced, enjoyed themselves in the close environment of the Club afterwards.  We scored first after Amara walked, Alice singled and Smack produced her first RBI for the day along with some good base running.  The defence was keeping them at bay and we scored twice on Jemma's bunt and then another two to make it 5-1 our way, but the Sturt ladies had thoughts of their own and shot to the lead with six runs, which was quickly run down in our next dig on the back of another Smack hit and Alice Morrison's amazingly pacy base running.  They replied with one but we hit them hard with five in our last at bat with Kelsey's RBI and Alice B's three RBI hit being the highlights.  Even their last was scary with one run scored and plenty on base, and it took a great reflex catch at third by Alice to snuff them out.  Must mention Dakota's catch at second towards the death - a match winner - never in doubt!  Fitting result for this hard working TEAM, who have had a terrific season under Coach Shane Brown and his able assistant Breandan Taheny.

GODANATS!!

Hits  :  Alice Brown, Sarah McMahon 3, Beth Lee, Alice Morrison 2, Kelsey Goldspink, Darna BoersVeen, Dakota Ding 1

DIVISION TWO  Semi Final v Adelaide at Don Klaebe Field Sat 15.03.25

WON 7-4

With a Grand Final appearance on the line, the boys were not going to let this one slip and they played accordingly.  With Dec on the mound after a stellar season and the reason we were in this position due to his performances, we let a few leak early and Coach Nat strode to the mound and said "give me the ball mate, I've got this" and then proceded to produce one of his finest performances in his long career for the Senators, allowing only two runs for the game.  We kicked off with four in the second on the back of a Manny RBI and a Ryan two RBI and a stolen home plate - in fact we stole home three times for the day - the last of which was Harry who took advantage of a wayward throw from the catcher. That was maybe cancelled out by us getting caught stealing five time during play, but aggression was the winner.  Todd Dunstall sealed the deal by an RBI hit in our last . We get to play West Torrens in The Grannie at West Beach next week and let's just say GODANATS!.  Hits  :  Armando Ramirez, Ryan Stradling 2, Greg Bravo, Todd Dunstall, Joe Papps, Harrison Kiss, Nathan Nicholson 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE Semi Final v Adelaide v Adelaide at Don Klaebe Field Sun 16.03.25

WON 16-3

Ditto the above - Grand Final on the line and Premiership aspirations a real reality against Sturt next Sunday at West Beach.  But first we had to defeat our opponent, Adelaide, and we did it in fine style - some would say it was a demolition - to put us in good stead for our next battle.  We really had a nervous start and put a few on base before getting out of jail with a sweet double play with no runs to worry about.  Our first run came from an outfield hit by Smack to enable Indie to score, and set us up for the next dig when we got the max seven with hits from Jem, Amara, Darna etc and came off with only the two outs.  Runs were scored in every innings, one, seven, four, three and one in our last to make sure of the resounding win.  Alice Brown pitched superbly and was backed up by a defence that was impeccable in their application and looked the goods all game.  Amara closed with no worries.  Hits  :  Jemila Dadd 3, Dakota Ding, Alice Morrison 2, Indie O'HazyZschorn, Amara Quinn, Alice Brown, Sarah McMahon, Darna BoersVeen 1.

DIVISION ONE

Game 1 of a possible three Elimination Finals at Don Klaebe Field Sat 8.03.25  v Sturt

Lost 0-14

Just two bad innings - that is all it took, coupled with a lack of hitting, to put us behind the eightball in this finals fight.  Walks and errors were our enemies in this game, and we certainly didn't back up our pitchers, namely AJ, Ollie and Pappsy.  Nothing of note to report in the field or in the batting box.  Best thing is we get to fight another day.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez 2, Oliver Hayes, Breandan Taheny 1.

Game 2

at Don Klaebe Field Sun 9.03.26 v Sturt

WON 3-2

Absolutely nothing happened for the first six innings with Sturt the only team to trouble the scorers with a single run, and another in the top of the seventh, as Drew was really keeping a tight hold on their batters.  We were hitting a lot better but not converting, but got some reward at last in the seventh after Ollie got on, Drew doubled and got him home, and Hayden's RBI squared the game at 2 - 2.  So then to the eighth - no further runs from either side as Cesar took over on the mound, and no runs from Sturt in their ninth.  A walkoff was the possibility and Alfredo singled as did Ollie and Jose obliged by smashing one to the outfield for the winning run to cross the plate.  Series tied at one all.  Hits  :  Hayden Carroll 3, Cesar Perez, Jose Castellano 2, Drew Janssen, Troy Nicholson, Joe Papps, Oliver Hayes, Breandan Taheny 1.

Game 3

at Don Klaebe Field Sun 9.03.26 v Sturt

Lost 1-12

Cesar kept the momentum going by starting, but the Sturt boys came out in a different frame of mind from the previous game and rattled on three quick runs to put us on the back foot.  Troy relieved and the runs kept flowing, and it was not until the fourth when Pappsy put one of our guys over the plate for an RBI and our one ond only run for the game.  Pappsy lived at rightfield for the day, taking numerous catches.  The finals campaign for the Div One boys has come to an end, but an extremely happy season was had by all.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen 2, Hayden Carrol, Wade Moore, Joe Papps 1.

DIVISION TWO Away v Henley Sat 8.03.25    WON 13-3

This Elimination Final was won early, as the "Rams" gifted us runs early in the piece with a host of errors along with plenty of walks.  We had to take advantage of this, and we did just that with plenty of good hitting to back up Declan and Nathan from the hill.  Game was called early and we march on to the semis next week.  Hits  :  Greg Bravo 4, Armando Ramirez 2, Alfredo Rodriguez, Nathan Nicholson, Tom Dineen 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE Away v Sturt Sun 9.03.25

Lost  3-4

An unfortunate loss by 1 run but we get the 2nd chance next week. Really good year, in which new ones were added and flourished and the more seasoned campaigner’s  held their own.  They were a privilege to watch - you shouldn't be allowed to have that much fun playing baseball.

JUNIORS

U15

The Boys had a terrific season, finishing second, but played possibly their most disappointing game of the year, losing 1-14 in the Semifinal.
