Three of our teams pulled on the green and gold of the Woodville Senators to do battle in Preliminary Finals over the weekend.  We didn't have the success we had hoped for, but all teams acquitted themselves fantastically well and were a credit to themselves and their Club.

Firstly, on Friday evening down at the Bay, our WOMEN'S LEAGUE Div One team took on Glenelg, and in a quality game which was called because of bad light at 5-5, we lost due to Glenelg's superior position on the ladder - one spot.  The girls got off to a brilliant start, posting four runs in the first with first class hitting.  However the hits started to dry up after that start, and the Bays clawed back one run at a time and we saw ourselves one down at 4-5 with the sunlight quickly leaving us.  We got a run to equalise, but time was called.  Great effort from our girls and they did us proud - a really enjoyable season.  Darna did the bulk of the pitching in this game, as she has done all year, and Tammy closed.  The hits were: Tammy 3, Leah, Carly, Ashleigh 2, Louise, Alyssa, Catie 1.  Onwards and upwards for this team in the future.

DIVISION SIX

Lost to East Torrens 2-8,  having played the bulk of the game in a stalemate at 1-1 for six innings.  We got our first in the third when Tim and Behr hit to score Scotty Geyer, and we scored our only other run in the last when the chips were really down, trying to bridge the gap.  The problem was in the bottom of the sixth, when three bleeders in a row loaded the Redsox' bases, and scored a run.  They capitalised on their good luck and went on to score a few more and effectively shut us out.  So that's the end of a good season, with the boys coming up a grade from their premiership last year in Div Seven, a fine effort.  Hits: Scotty Geyer 2 (and a Hammy), Flash, Cam, Teaks 1.  Great work on the mound Marso.

UNDER 17

Lost to Sturt 7-8.  Exit Coach Owens (home to USA) and enter two Marchioro's and a Nicholson.  Well done guys.  The boys certainly came to play and notched up four in the first, and when JVS got home on Owen's RBI and Blake scored on a passed ball, we had six after two.  They got three, and could had a few more but for some good D on our part.  Things were tight and runs hard to come by, but Sturt edged closer and it was a tied up ball game at the end of the scheduled seven.  So, extra innings it was, and we didn't score and Sturt managed to steal their way to a one run victory.  Bad luck lads - you did really well.  Hits: Johnny Van Senden 2 (and five solid innings on the mound), Harrison Kiss 1 (and two innings), Owen Williams 1 ( and one inning)

DIVISION ONE Away vs East Torrens 8.03.20

WON 6-4

A real nice way to finish off the season with our thirteenth win, a huge improvement on last year.  It was a game dominated by Gary Owens in the batting box and at centre field, and by Rhett Feser on the mound who threw six excellent innings.  Gary's two RBI home run in the third got the momentum going then Jacko got into the act with an RBI and bamboozled the Redsox boys in a run down play while our runner scored.  Bases loaded next dig, and Gary did the right thing with a solid line drive to bring in another two.  Will chipped in with two innings, and Gary closed it out.  No complaints here, we just looked the better team all day.  Hits: Gary Owens(HR) 4, Troy Nicholson 2, Jackson Sowton, Wade Moore 1.

DIVISION TWO Away vs East Torrens  8.03.20

Lost 1-7 Although the game was lost, there were some really encouraging moments.  Jimmy Chu was superb at centre field, accounting for all three outs in one innings, taking six catches in total, and Jacko had a great day behind the plate throwing out several of their attempted steals.  Harrison Kiss continued to impress with the bat, and Rhys Owen was a tower of strength on the hill.  Those five drawn games throughout the season cost us big time.  Hits: Harrison Kiss 3, Ryan Marsland 2, Jackson Sowton 1.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE Home vs Sth District 7.03.20

WON 11-2 The visitors scored two in their first which jolted our girls into action, and we really got going with four of our own.  Darna was terrific from the hill, and Tammy proved to be the perfect relief at the death.  As for the batters, ten hits says it all.  We take on Glenelg away in the preliminary final next Friday evening, and it would be terrific if we could have a good turnout to encourage our team.  Hits: Leah Turner 3, Rachel Coutie, Tammy McMillan 2, Carly Moore, Ashleigh George, Alyssa Lasscock 1.

DIVISION SIX

The team did not play up to their capabilities and lost 4-14 to Henley & Grange.  However, due to other results, we have been given another chance as the highest placed finals loser, and will take on East Torrens next week.  Let's hope we can take advantage of this.  Hits: Flash 2, Cam, Sully and Scotty Geyer 1.  Marso, Sully and Behr shared pitching duties.

UNDER 17

This was just a fantastic contest of nearly four hours, with the lead changing back and forth all day.  Our first two digs saw us leave five out there, which proved costly at the finish.  We were four down coming into the last and we got them with two outs and forced extra innings.  The Indians scored two, which proved to be two too many.  We went down 10-12, but, as with the Div 6's, we live to fight another day as the highest placed loser, and take on Sturt at their ground next week.  Johnny Von Senden pitched a great game, and the hits were: Harrison Kiss, Aldo McCormack 2, Cody Tape, Blake O'Brien, Johnny Von Senden, Owen Williams 1.

UNDER 11

Played their first final and acquitted themselves fantastically, going down 6-10 to Goodwood.  All played well and will be better for the experience.  See you next season guys.

DIVISION ONE vs Goodwood - Twilight away 25.02.20

WON 10-7

Very nice to score two out of two over the Indians for the season.  Gary started, and the boys in the defence made him work hard in the first two innings by not capitalising on opportunities, but we fared better with bats in hand, with Nat getting Gary home in the first with a double, and then Gary scoring again in the third off Troy's hit and Jacko's sac fly getting Ethan home.  It was in the fourth that it all came together with four runs when Todd, Troy and Ethan all hit, they intentionally walked Gary, Nat got a few home with another hit, and after Fidge was forced to sit, Jacko's second sac fly for the evening saw in another.  We got another three next dig to go to a good lead, but, Goodwood being Goodwood, they put on three with a homer off Rhett who had come in for Gary.  In the gathering gloom, Todd and Tom combined to score, but it didn't count as the umpire correctly called time because of the light.  The score reverted to a 10-7 win. Hits: Gary Owens, Troy Nicholson 3, Ethan Marchioro, Nathan Nicholson 2, Wade Moore, Todd Dunstall, Tom Dineen, James Chu 1.

DIVISION ONE vs GGCD Away 1.03.20

WON 8-3 Rhett started and they got one off him courtesy of a wicked bounce at third that nearly took Tom's head off, and after Jacko had put one on, Troy's two RBI hit put us in front. The Dodgers came back with a couple in the sixth and we were only two up, not enough to be comfortable.  This was a good test for young Will, and he threw a pair of good innings for no score, and with Gary closing them out, we got three in the last to enable us all to breathe a bit easier.  It doesn't really make up for our poor effort at the same venue earlier in the season, but it certainly felt better.  Hits: Troy Nicholson 3, Callum Park, Jackson Sowton, Tom Dineen 2, Gary Owens, Ethan Marchioro, Todd Dunstall 1.

DIVISION TWO vs GGCD Away 1.03.20

Lost 2-6 Jacko put on a show for us in the first, running like a jackrabbit between second and third in a run-down play and eventually being safe, only to score our first run.  Vic did two, then Rhys came on and did the remainder.  He was confident enough to intentionally walk a batter to load the bases at one stage and then produce the goods.  Mid game we gave up four with some ordinary mental errors making life hard for the pitcher.  We introduced Ashleigh George into the game with immediate results with her first-up hit, and then Wade popped one over the left-field fence in the last for our second run.  Season over for these guys, but they gave us a great ride for the year.  Hits: Jackson Sowton 2, Troy Nicholson, Jarrod Marsland, Travis Joblin, Ashleigh George, Wade Moore (HR), Tom Dineen 1.

DIVISION FOUR finished their season with a loss.  It's been a tough year for the boys, but their good humour shone through all year.

DIVISION SIX had a long haul up to Gawler and after giving up six in the first, went three innings at seven runs each to record a 21-8 victory.  A couple of other match results meant that we finished in fourth position, thus avoiding a dreaded Wednesday evening game.  Hits: Cam Britcher excelled with four, Behr had three, Scott Geyer, Garry Marsland and Flash got two each, and Rev, Sully and Knuckles got one.  Scotty Currie pitched, but did a Timmy Russell running to home plate.

DIVISION SEVEN also finished the season, but with a well earned win over Gawler 9-6, meritorious because we had only eight players.  Casey Moore was terrific, pitching most of the game and hitting two triples and a double, with Flash hitting two, and Derek Milne, Aaron Petros, Craig Mortimore and Keith Mortimore each contributing one.  Keith claims (and he would know) that he went through the entire season without a K.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE  defeated Port Adelaide 13-0 to give them third spot on the ladder and a home final.  It was worth the price of admission when Darna put on a show for us, stopping half way down to home plate, turning around only to find third occupied, then darting back and forth until face-planting on the plate - out!  Darna and Ashleigh both hit in the park home runs in an all round great display.  Hits: Darna Veen (HR), Catie Berry 2, Rachel Coutie, Ashleigh George (HR), Tammy McMillan, Megan Brownbill 1.

UNDER 17 Lost to Goodwood 6-8, but will be playing finals.  Gary threw the team around a bit, so we can expect better things from this point.  Hits: Blake O'Brien 2, Harrison Kiss, Aldo McCormack, Owen Williams 1.

UNDER 13 played Sturt at Flinders University and recorded a final win for the season 10-7.  Toby pitched and had a hit, whilst Ben had two and Kayla and Indy had one each.  Unfortunately these guys will not be playing finals - this year.

UNDER 11 also defeated Sturt 11-4.  Are playing finals - all venues and dates and times to be advised.  Fantastic hitting in this game, all the hard work is paying off.  Matthew hit a homer, Ollie belted a double and Dakota got two hits, whilst Jacob, Archie and Chase all got one.  What about Ollie - two shutout innings and a slide at home.  Good luck in the finals kids.
