WOODVILLE WOMAN'S DIVISION ONE
GRAND FINAL Sun March 22, 2026 v Adelaide WON 12-1
Following on from the great success had at the Capps Medal night the previous Wednesday, the girls were raring to get out to the diamond and have a real good crack at back-to-back flags. Seven of our team were given Team of the Year honours, one was Capps Medalist and batting and pitching champion (Alice Brown), Peyton won the RBI award, Beth was the Golden Glove infielder, Shane was the Coach and our scorer, Jo Owen, scorer of the year. Not a bad nights work.
So we come to the game, held on a magnificent, bright sunny day at Bennett Field West Beach. We got two in the first, benefitting from a nervous Adelaide error filled inning and a Peyton RBI, but our scoring dried up and when the Angels scored one in the third, Coach Brown decided enough was enough and had a bit of a chat to the girls. The result was immediate as the maximum seven were posted in the fourth and the game was within our grasp. Indy got us going with a single, then stole and scored on Beth's hit, Amara singled and Alice's high shot enabled another to come home, a passed ball added one, then Peyton's second double for the day scored. They intentionally walked Carly (much to her chagrin), Dakota hit and Indy's RBI got another, Beth's second hit for the dig and a couple of fumbles scored two more. In the meantime, Alice was pounding them down on her way to seven strikeouts and MVP status, before running out of pitches and allowing Peyton to close. Three runs in the last - Alyssa came into the game and smashed one, Amara copped one and Alice hit her second double for the day, and Carly finished off with a single.
All in all, a fantastic way to complete the unbeaten season. Accolades all round to the hard work the girls put in on the track, and the dedication of the coaching staff of Shane Brown, James and Ryan Stradling. Hits : Peyton Daniels 3, Alice Brown, Indy O'Hazy-Zschorn, Beth Lee 2, Sarah McMahon, Amara Quinn, Carly Moore, Dakota Ding, Alyssa Lasscock 1.
