DIVISION ONE Away vs Glenelg  -  Twilight Tue 28.01.20

WON  3-2

The Bay's import started against our man Rhett Feser and it was a classic pitchers contest for four innings with nothing on the board, although we had left plenty out there in scoring positions.  Things changed in the fifth however after Rhys whacked one, Tom bunted to advance the runner, then they intentionally walked Gary and Ethan gladly knocked in a two RBI hit.  Wow - mistake number one. They got only one back next dig thankfully after loading the bases, when Rhett had to sit because he had reached his pitch count maximum. One more from the Tigers and it was a tied up ball game.  Gary took over from Rhett, and it was the last inning, and with us having two on base they decided to intentionally walk Troy, mistake number two, as his older brother Nathan lined one straight to shortstop who provided us with an error to score the run that they couldn't catch. You could tell that they were not happy - but them's are the breaks.  So two games to nil against Glenelg this season - does it get much better?  Hits:  Ethan Marchioro 2, Troy Nicholson, Nathan Nicholson, Wade Moore, Todd Dunstall, Rhys Owen, Jackson Sowton 1.

DIVISION ONE Away vs Nth Districts

WON 3-2

The first six innings went scoreless, with not a lot happening in either camps.  There were a couple of highlights however, with Wade hitting two nice doubles and Callum Park taking a blinder, and of course Rhett was pitching well.  We got out of jail at one point having the Reds loading the bases, but thankfully they did not capitalise.  Both teams changed pitchers, and their guy couldn't find the glove and put a couple of runners on, so Rhys took advantage and got them both home, then Gary got him home for a three run lead, which was whittled down to one when one of their batters put one over with a man on base.  We had to hold them in the last which we managed to do for a win.  Hits: Gary Owens, Wade Moore 2, Troy Nicholson, Callum Park, Nathan Nicholson, Rhys Owen 1.

DIVISION TWO Away vs Nth Districts

Draw 3-3

Jimmy Chu's return from holidays proved to be a bonus for us, as he ran in our first two runs after we had given the home side a three run start.  A definite highlight for us was Will Kortekaas taking over from Vic in the fourth innings in his first visit to the mound in over eighteen months, due to injury.  He threw two solid innings for no runs and a very handy pick-off at second  -  a fine start.  Jacko scored the second of Jimmy's runs, and Harry's hit brought Sam home to equalise.  Really, it's bit disappointing that we didn't win by a fair margin, given the way the game was played.  Still in the finals hunt.  Hits: Jackson Sowton 2, Troy Nicholson, Ryan Marsland, Harrison Kiss, Jimmy Chu 1.

DIV FOUR - Game was a washout and not a ball was thrown.

DIV SIX and DIV SEVEN both played in the rain at the Bay and had to contend with sloppy conditions and both lost in forgettable style; 1-11 and 3-17 respectively.

The WOMEN'S League barely got started before the gloom and rain forced the cancellation.  And it's a good thing too, as a lightning bolt jolted the Club shortly after, in a noise not heard of.  All the little kids who had finished training and were enjoying the slippery slide, soon came running into the safe arms of mum and dad.  Pandemonium abounded.  The girls are still in finals contention.

Under 11's had a very good win over Golden Grove 8-5, but the Under 13's lost to Adelaide 4-6, and the Peewees (Under 9) lost to Glenelg 24-25 in a highly entertaining affair.

DIVISION ONE Twilight 21.01.20 at Don Klaebe Field vs Henley & Grange

WON 3-2

Rhett Feser put in a beauty and went the distance apart from hitting his pitch limit in the last, leaving the game having given up no runs in a real tight display.  In contrast, we handled their starter pretty well, as exemplified in the third when we got all our three runs with what can only be described as fine team batting.  Jacko started it all off by hitting and reaching first and was advanced by Todd and after Ethan walked we had the bases all loaded up, so a Troy hit scored one, Nathan got one more home and Wade's sac got the third.  Sounds simple. Seriously, it was a morale booster, especially against the ladder leaders who have scoured the League for talent over the last couple of years.  They got a couple in the last, but not enough to make us bat again.  Hits: Gary Owens, Todd Dunstall, Ethan Marchioro, Troy Nicholson, Nathan Nicholson, Tom Dineen, Jackson Sowton 1.  To quote Shane Crawford - -  "That's what I'm talking about".

DIVISION ONE Away 25.01.20 vs Henley & Grange

Lost 2-5

Different kettle of fish this game, they were scarred from the previous encounter and meant business with their import on the mound, but we kept with them except for a three run dinger in the third and a late solo.  Gary really showed his pitching prowess by restricting their hitters, and he had a good defence helping out.  Troy's double followed by Rhys's double scored us our first and we took advantage of a passed ball for our second.  An almost pleasing effort over nine innings as we were severely restricted in numbers with the long weekend luring a few players elsewhere.  Hits: Callum Park, Rhett Feser 2, Troy Nicholson, Rhys Owen 1.  Yes, that's correct, you saw it - Rhett with two hits playing right-field. He's really talking himself up now.

DIVISION TWO Away 25.01.20 vs Henley & Grange

WON 5-4

Another gutsy come from behind win for these guys, sneaking in two runs in the last and then managing to hold on and watch them thankfully swinging away for the final strike-out.  We were 1-4 down after three and in the fourth we loaded the bases with one out and didn't trouble the scorers.  Rhys's nice double enabled him to score from Troy's hit and a passed ball gave us another, so we were always in the hunt, but those two in the last were the sealer.  Nathan and Rhys were the hurlers and did a fine job, with Richard showing his versatility by catching a few innings before succumbing to a mystery injury.  Jacko filled in superbly.  Hits:  Rhys Owen 2, Nathan Nicholson, Will Kortekaas, Peter Drover, Troy Nicholson 1.  Thanks to Sam from Mount Gambier and Josh Mignone from Div Four for helping out on the day.

Juniors and the Woman's League all kick off again after their break this weekend.

DIVISION ONE  Away v GGCD Tuesday twilight 14.01.20

Lost 2-18

It has been a happy hunting ground for us over the years, with numerous good wins, but this year's trip to Golden Grove proved to be a nightmare of the highest order.  Their normally fragile batting line-up put us to the sword, with twenty-one hits thrashed to all parts of the diamond including three homers to our three hits, all collected in the last inning when they introduced a reliever.  Their first inning of six runs lasted twenty-seven minutes, then they amassed six more in the third, and another five in the fourth, which was their last. A dismal effort.  Hits:  Ethan Marchioro, Todd Dunstall, Wade Moore.  Harrison Kiss had his first Div One start and acquitted himself well.

DIVISION ONE at Don Klaebe Field Sunday 19.01.20

Lost 2-11 to West Torrens.

Although being well beaten after nine innings, the boys put up a much better performance against one of the top teams, and were certainly in it right up until the Eagles got six in the sixth and seventh to close us out.  Weight of numbers with their big hitters told in the end, but the signs were a big improvement on the mid-week showing.  New transferee Callum Park, playing his first game, hit a nice double to score us a run in the fourth, and let's hope it's a look into the future.  Hits:  Rhys Owen 2, Gary Owens, Callum Park, Ethan Marchioro, Troy Nicholson, Wade Moore, Todd Dunstall 1.

DIVISION TWO at Don Klaebe Field Sunday 19.01.20

Drew 7-7 with West Torrens.

Strange old game, with us trailing most of the day, at one stage being down zip to seven, but the boy's comeback is a credit to them. We got one back in the sixth, but got four more next dig on the back of Nat's and Ethan's hits, and all of a sudden we were only two down, and the Torrens team were powerless to stop the momentum.  Marso the elder hit and subsequently got home, and one more tied it up.  Just keeping the finals flame flickering.  Hits:  Ryan Marsland, Nathan Nicholson 2, Jackson Sowton, Troy Nicholson, Tom Dineen, Will Kortekaas, Travis Joblin, Ethan Marchioro, Wade Moore 1.  Vic Benveltzen put in a sterling showing on the mound.

DIV FOUR are having a tough time of it and lost to Southern Districts.

DIV SIX

With Sully having a super game on the mound, the boys all rallied around him and had a fine win against an experienced Sturt team, 10-6, consolidating their grip on a finals spot.  Hits:  Teakle, Behr 3, Sully, Watto (Superbat) 2, Cuz, Nicko 1.

DIV SEVEN

Also played Sturt but couldn't achieve the same result and went down 7-14 with hits to new boy Shane Lavida (welcome Shane) 3, two each to Derek Milne, Casey Moore and Keith Mortimore, and one to Aldo McCormack.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

Unbeaten Sturt began with four in the first, but our girls got their act together and clawed back with impressive hitting and top defence.  We never gave up at any stage and really surprised the opposition and gave them something to think about.  We lost 7-12, but a hugh improvement on our encounter with them earlier in the season.  Hits:  Louise Bartel 3, Rachel Coutie 2, Darna Veen, Carly Moore, Alyssa Lasscock, Kerryn Fry, Carol Ryan 1. Darna, Rachel and Carly handled the pitching duties.
