DIVISION ONE  v  Sth Districts at Don Klaebe Field Tue 14/01/25

Lost 1-13

The two top teams at the head of the table in a shootout, and what a fizzer it turned out to be.  We let them in early and they took full advantage and made us look flat in the third when they piled on six followed by three in the next and another two in the fifth, to enable the umps to call it early.  We had been mercied. Not what you want in the lead up to the pointy end of the season.  Breandan Taheny provided a glimmer of hope with a bomb in the last.  We used three pitchers - namely Troy, Drew and Greg and they found it difficult to contain the Hawks' hitters.  Hits  :  Breandan Taheny (HR), Drew Janssen, Alfredo Rodriguez 1.

DIVISION ONE  v  Henley & Grange away Sat 18/01/25

Lost 3-4

This game, against another top team, was in complete contrast to the one a few days ago.  This was a great contest all day, with the two pitchers going at it and both defences holding up well.  We were witness to some great catches in the infield in the third when Troy snared one and Cesar took two blinders.  No scores until their pitcher put one over in the fourth, but we replied with three after we loaded the bases and Hayden obliged by his double enabling three to cross the plate.  Shortlived however as a two run bomb tied the scores.  AJ took to the bench after nine strikeouts in a gutsy effort and they luckily snared a run in the seventh to take out the game. Gave ourselves a chance in the last when Cesar singled and Drew walked, but that was that, and we rued the fact that we left so many runners out there - close to a dozen for the day.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen 2, Hayden Carroll, Cesar Perez, Troy Nicholson, Jose Castellano 1.  So, two games against H&G this year - a one run win and a one run loss - bring it on.

DIVISION TWO  v  Henley & Grange away Sat 18/01/25

WON 13-5

Largely untroubled in this one with Declan in control, relieved by young Ryan at the death.  Two-hit Tommy was at it again with a scoring double in the second, and Ryan's single knocked in two, but a three run homer by Alfredo proved to be a highlight. Then after they walked him in the next Manny's double got another three on the board, and Jose loved the vibe and got his hitting mojo back. Solid win.  Hits  :  Jose Castellano 3, Alfredo Rodriguez (HR), Tom Dineen 2, Joe Papps, Amando Ramirez, Ryan Stredling 1.

DIVISION THREE  v  Henley & Grange away Sat 18/01/25

WON 10-7

Started the game in sparkling form with Luke, Will, Elvin and Seb all putting on a hitting show.  But the fourth was the killer innings with everybody getting in on the act after Amara took a nasty knock to the elbow, with Kossi and Diesel both hitting doubles to post eight big ones.  Diesel did the job from the mound and we finished the game with a classy double play.  Hits  :  Luke Taylor, Diesel Fallon 2, Will Stock, Jose Ramirez, Elvin Avila, Josh Boden, Kosuke Ikeda 1.

DIVISION SEVEN (Red) away v West Torrens

Lost 2-13

Put up a pretty good showing, but couldn't match the opposition today.  Took the silver.  Hits:  Kim Soung, Brad Atkinson 2, Owen Williams, Mike Chemny 1.

DIVISION SEVEN (Blue)

Had a cracking win over Kensington at Don Klaebe Field 18-8.

Andrew Eime went the distance from the mound in a great display and the hits were  :  Moore, Couzner, Eime, McCormack, Oliver, Kelly - all three each, Vyong 1.  What!! no Stradling??

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE had a bye

DIVISION TWO away v Kensington Fri 17/01/25

Came away with a terrific win 10-6

ALL JUNIOR GAMES SUN 19/01/25 CANCELLED DUE TO HEAT.

DIVISION ONE     Away v Adelaide Sat 11/01/25

WON 10-1

It was AJ's game - pure and simple - six digs, eleven strikeouts, one measley run.  As one of his adversaries was heard to say immediatley after the game - "AJ was on fire!  Line up for the three votes AJ!  The batters and also the defence certainly deserve a huge mention, as we got on top of their pitching all game and let them know we were fair dinkum in the field with some sparkling plays.  Hayden's big double got Wade home after his first of four hits, and Greg had an RBI of his own, and not to be outdone , Callum's nice deep double allowed Cezar to score him, who had a QAB in the next to frustrate the Angels.  Then we got a lazy five in the seventh after a Taheney bunt caused all sorts of panic with a wild throw and consequent mayhem, with Wade hitting a double, an intentional walk for Drew, then a Troy double for a couple more runs.  More runs in the next - Wade again, Taheny again and  hits galore.  A treat.   Drew took the mound for a couple of easy innings, and Cezar closed.  Hits  :  Wade Moore 4, Callum Park, Cezar Perez, Troy Nicholson, Hayden Carroll, Greg Bravo, Breandon Taheny 1.

DIVISION TWO     Away v Adelaide Sat 11/01/25

Draw 3-3

Declan was at his best on the hill and stepped down at 3-1 up after four.  He showed his class at one stage by getting himself out of a jam with full bases and allowing no runs.  Good stuff.  Tom Dineen got the ball rolling for us with his hit in the third, and Greg certainly kept the pressure on with a single of his own.  We got three in that dig and didn't appear to be in any strife until they got one down the third baseline to knock in two at the death to even the ball game. Hits  :  Greg Bravo 2, Todd Dunstall, Joe Papps, Alfredo Rodriguez, Tom Dineen 1.

DIVISION THREE     Away v Adelaide Sat 11/01/25

Lost 5-11

Lost it at the start with eight runs to the opposition - first four unearned. Young Will started and didn't have it easy, so Amara replaced him and Aldo had a go.  Credit to Coach Davey Lodge who kept a cool head and young Seb found his way to the mound and calmed the farm, keeping them quiet and let our bats have a go at catching up.  Luke's terrific triple following Jonah's hit to left field and we were away, knocking in four for the dig and Jose Rameriz kept it going.  In all, a satisfactory second half to the game, but obviously the damage had been done.  Hits  :  Luke Taylor (triple), Will Stock, Jose Rameriz (double), Kosuke Ikeda, Aldo McCormack, Amara Quinn (congrats on the inclusion in the State Woman's team), Jonah Byrnes 1.

DIVISION SIX   At home v Flinders

Went down 6-18  with Jack Davies and Joe Braithwaite collecting two hits each, and Jayden Oakley, Jose Beltran and Casey Moore one each.

DIVISION SEVEN - Red - at home v Goodwood

WON 10-5

I thought they were dead in the water when I left to go the Adelaide game at 4-5 down.  Their intrepid scorer, Judy, brought me the news at Adelaide and I failed to believe her until I thought - they are a remarkable bunch of fighters - so really well done.  Ding pitched (again), and the hits came from Owen Williams 3, David Ding 2 (both doubles), Aaron Petros, Derek Milne, Brad Atkinson, Kim Hoony 1.

DIVISION SEVEN - Blue - away v Glenelg

WON 12-9

Great win this one coming from 4-8 down with contributors across the board.  Andrew Eime gets a special mention for three hits and seven strikeouts, but how about Cuz - three hits and one strikeout in relief.  Starting pitcher next week!!  Hits  :  Andrew Eime, Steve Couzner 3, Nick McCormack 2, Tim Fawcett, Gomez, Nat Oliver, Andy Vsong, Peter Page 1

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE At Don Klaebe Field Sun 12/01/25  v Kensington

WON 8-0

No score to either side in the first, but our girls burst into full stride in the next with a five run haul, after Smack singled as did Dakota, then a Kelsey double for two RBI's and an Alice B double scored one more.  Innings three and four belonged to Alice - the third was three strikeouts bang, bang, bang and the fourth three up and three down.. The girls were all hitting at this stage and we had to endure a l-o-n-g  break while rules were discussed, meanwhile

Kelsey helped herself to another double.  Hits  :  Indie O'hazyZschorn, Sarah McMahon, Kelsey Goldspink 2, Amara Quinn, Alice Brown, Dakota Ding, Darna BoersVeen 1.

DIVISION TWO At Don Klaebe Field Fri 10/01/25 v Adel Red

Lost 5-11

The girls kept right in the game and were playing well until the Angels slipped away from us in the third with five runs.  We were plugging away, and in fact it was an entertaining encounter, with good play on both sides.  Jem's batting  was a highlight - loved her sliding technique - with a double and two singles.  Di struck out one early and both Indie and Dakota had three  each later in the game.  Hits  :  Jemila Dadd 3, Ashlie Stradling, Kym Wilson, Immy Copperstone, Rachel Page 1.

Juniors resume next week.

DIVISION ONE     Away v Glenelg Sat 4/01/25     WON 3-1

This game seemed to lack a bit of oomph, just meandered along with AJ not giving their batters a sniff, and we were not much better against their imported pitcher, not scoring until the third when the wily Callum walked, stole, and scored on Drew's hit up the middle.  AJ sat down after four, having struck out eight in a fine effort, and after they managed to even the score at 1-1, Drew took the reins and snuffed them out in three peerless innings with four strikeouts.  Earlier, we looked the goods but left runners out there too often, with Drew at one stage looking for sunscreen.  We finally found our mojo with the bats and Troy doubled to bring one in and a sac fly from Ollie made it three and that was that.  A win - not a hugely satisfying one - but a win all the same to enable us to remain on top of the ladder.  Let's keep it going.  Hits  ;  Drew Janssen, Jose Castellano, Hayden Carroll 2, Troy Nicholson 1.

DIVISION TWO     Away v Glenelg Sat 4/01/25     Lost 1-10

A loss we didn't see coming, with our team looking in good shape and expecting to be keeping the winning streak going.  We posted the first run of the game, but that was the medleys, as the bats were put away, in the bat bag, not to be seen for the rest of the day and the opposition, whilst not overpowering our boys, just kept chipping away with runs in every dig to finally give us a bit of a wakeup call.  We have to try and hang on to that third position.  Hits  : Harrison Kiss, Ryan Stradling 1.

DIVISION THREE     Away v Glenelg Sat 4/01/25

Lost 4-8

Amara was the starting pitcher and was unfortunately on the end of too many errors in the first, in fact she got five outs in that dig, and then she and Luke both had RBI's in the next to square the game at three each.  We looked pretty good at this stage, with Davy back in charge on his broken leg, and we were hitting ok but not crossing the plate.  Will, and then Ryan came on in relief, and showed us what fine futures they are looking at.  Hits  :  Luke Taylor 2, Will Stock, Jose Ramiraz, Kosuke Ikeda, Aldo McCormack, Amara Quinn 1.

DIV SEVEN (Red) Home v Sth District

Lost 7-10

As usual, an entertaining game played in great spirit. Were leading all game, and getting ready for post-game cellebrations, but fell in a hole.  Hits  :  Soung Kim, Owen Williams 2, Aaron Petros, Derek Milne, David Ding 1.  Special mention David Ding - pitched the whole game.

DIV SEVEN (Blue) Away v Sth District

Lost 1-9

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE at Don Klaebe Field v Sth District Sun 5/01/25     Lost 8-7

Hard to fathom this one - up 7-3 going into the last and blowing it.  We walked two in the first, and they scored them both but we put the brakes on big-time, and evened the scores straight away when Indie reached on an error, Alice B got her home and then scored on another error.  Then another two in the next after Dakota hit and Dana advanced her and she reached home on a passed ball and Indie doubled and Alice B had an RBI again.  So 4-2 up and some good baseball in the next with Molly walking and Jemila hitting but no run . A three run dig in the next with Indie hitting to first and Amara's double scoring her and Alice M reaching on an error.  Seven two at this stage, and Alice Brown had done four really strong innings and had a well deserved breather.  The rest is unreal. Hits  :  Indie O'Hazyzschorn 3, Alice Brown 2, Amara Quinn, Jemila Dadd, Dakota Ding, Alice Morrison 1.
