WDBC results from a couple of weeks back  -  computer problems

This will be a bit of a precis of the Men's Div 1, 2 and 3 and the Woman's 1's and 2's over the last couple of weeks.  Sorry that my notes were a little scattered and this is the best I can do at this stage.

DIVISION ONE v GGCD AWAY 16.11.24

WON 7-0

Scored a run in each of the first two, and Drew was on his game from the mound as evidenced by the scoreline, and he accumulated ten strikeouts along the way.  We piled on five in the fifth when Ollie doubled and came home on an error, then Jose walked and we filled the bases and Wade's hit to the outfield got a couple more home.  Hits  :  Jose Castellano, Wade Moore, Troy Nicholson 2, Drew Janssen, Hayden Carroll, Oliver Hayes, Breandan Taheny 1.

DIVISION ONE v West Torrens AWAY 19.11.24

WON 6-1

Got them on the back foot immediately from the start with a four run kickoff, highlight being a Joey Papps two RBI hit.  We saw off four of their pitchers during the course of the game, and Jose scored us a couple more in the sixth.  AJ was on fire in one of his best performances to date.  Hits  :  Jose Castellano, Cesar Perez, Troy Nicholson 2, Drew Janssen, Joe Papps 1.

DIVISION ONE v Kensington AWAY 23.11.24

WON 10-0

Can't be afraid to take on the Cardinals anymore, as we mercy'd them in eight with Troy Nicholson being completely dominant in going all the way from the mound.  Five runs in the second were the result of fine batting from the likes of Cezar, Drew and Callum, and in the fourth Ollie doubled and Taheny got him home.  Other highlights were Hayden's and Manny's RBI's and Alfredo' double.  Hits  :  Troy Nicholson, Callum Park, Hayden Carroll 2, Jose Castellano, Drew Janssen, Oliver Hayes, Alfredo Rodriguez 1.

DIVISION ONE v East Torrens HOME 26.11.24

WON 5-4

This game meandered along for the most part, but the finish was extraordinary, with us walking it off in spectacular fashion.  It was two all after four and they threw the cat among the pigeons by notching up another two, but Drew clawed one back with a homer.  So, one down going into the last and Greg Bravo singled and we were gifted two walks to load the bases and who steps up but Cezar to put one over the second baseman's head to bring home the necessary two for the win.  AJ threw well, but Cesar was credited with the win by pitching the last dig.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen 2, Cesar Perez, Wade Moore, Troy Nicholson, Joe Papps, Greg Bravo.

DIV TWO v GGCD

WON 8-7

Behind all day - popped up with eight in the last. Team was full of contributors, with the defence really standing up behind Declan, Ollie, Pappsy and Ryan.  Hits  :  Luke Taylor 2, Harrison Kiss, Greg Bravo, Tom Dineen 1.

DIV TWO  v Kensington

WON 10-0

Declan was terrific in this game as were the batters with the home runs by Manny and Harrison the standouts.  Hits  :  Joe Papps 3, Alfredo Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez (HR) 2, Harrison Kiss (HR), Todd Dunstall, Jimmy Chu, Declan Quinn 1.

DIV THREE v GGCD     Lost 0-4

DIV THREE v Kensington    Lost 3-11

WOMEN'S DIV ONE v Kensington   Nice win 13-2 followed by a bye.

WOMEN'S DIV TWO lost to Port  12-13 and followed it up with a loss to West Torrens

JUNIOR’S

Junior League -Woodville 25 Def Nth Districts 1,  a massive scoring game from our JL team this week and moving into 3rd spot on the ladder after this weekend. Some excellent defensive plays and some great pitching from Archie Wallis 4 innings 5 strikeouts & Luke Fawcett 1 inning 3 strikeouts & Benji Hayes had a great day with the bat and behind the dish throwing out 2 runners also. A great all around team effort with every player doing their part.

Hits were: Benji Hayes 3 (single, double & Triple & 3 RBIs), Luke Fawcett 2 Doubles & 4 RBIs, Archie Wallis 2, Xavier Gower 2, Anton Kumar 2, Adon Aldridge 1, Arlo Cockshell 1, Chace Wallis 1, Remy Brooks 1.

The Minor league team headed out to GGCD to face the GGCD red team. We only had 7 players for the game but these kids put up a great fight. The score book will show that we went down 9-1 but that doesn't give a real indication of how well they played. With some rule confusion, the final score would have been 9-3 or possibly even closer. The kids hit well, with a lot of them getting safe hits off the pitcher. We loaded the bases a couple times through out the game which started to put pressure on the opposition. Kids are improving each and every week.

DIVISION ONE

Home game played at Diamond Sports Park Sat 9/11/24     v     H & Grange

WON 3-2

Very tight game of baseball, one in which we were never headed, staying infront all game by a slim margin.  Taheney's RBI in the second got us the lead, and we doubled it when we got a couple on base, and a baulk let Drew saunter in for the second.  Meanwhile, AJ was strutting his stuff and giving their powerful lineup zilch, ably backed up by a stingy defence that gave them nothing.  Our third came as a result of a wayward throw to first - silly not to capitalise.  AJ sat down after six, and we got a slight scare when they knocked in a couple in the eighth, but the Coach put them to bed without a wimper.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez, Drew Janssen, Wade Moore, Troy Nicholson, Oliver Hayes, Breandan Taheny 1.  Nice to come back like that after last week's loss.

DIVISION TWO

Home game played at Diamond Sports Park Sat 9/11/24     v      H & Grange

Lost 1-9

Declan was looking fine and kept them in check, whilst we got our solitary run in the first and things were looking ok.  They got lucky in the fourth with three, and we goofed a chance with bases loaded and it took the wind out of our sales, and there was no more scoring from us.  We failed big time in the latter part of the game to back up our pitchers, but a three run homer put paid to our chances.  Hits  :  one only - Todd Dunstall.

DIVISION THREE

Home game played at Diamond Sports Park Sat 9/11/24     v H & Grange

Lost 5-18

We lost it in the first, when we let them get seven, then in the second when they got a further three - all with no reply.  In fact we didn't give a yelp until the third, when we scored a creditable five runs to look a lot more competative.  Our young and relatively inexperienced line up never gave up the ghost, and fought on manfully to the end.  A credit to themselves.  Hits  : Sebastian Bravo, Luke Taylor, Will Stock, Aldo McCormack 1.

DIVISION SEVEN (Blue)     v     Goodwood away Sat 9/11/24

WON 7-5

Thrilling win on the back of a good pitching effort from Andrew Eime, ably backed up by Joe Braithwaite.  Lots of hits - namely Nat (the Pope) Oliver with three, two to Andrew Eime and one each to Tim Fawcett, Jake Wilson, Joe Braithwaite, Jayden Oakley and Jose Beltran

DIVISION SEVEN (Red)     v     Adelaide at Diamond Sports Park Sat 9/11/24

Lost 4-6

Let them score three in the first, but we equalled immediately, and the rest of the game was a topsy-turvy affair with the highlights from our point of view being the pitching (all game) of Dave Ding, and then his triple at a crucial time.  Nearly could have gone all the way, but that pesky third base coach spoiled the fun.  Hits  :  Kim Hoony, Owen Williams, David Ding, Derek Milne, Shane Lodge, Aaron Petros 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE     Away      v     Sth Districts Sun 10/11/24

Lost 1-10

Thought things were going to be fine when Sarah got to second in the first, but we couldn't score - in fact we were not on the board until the last.  The Hawk's ladies started slowly as well, but got their mojo going in the fourth when we put in a poor one.  A shame for Alice Brown in her 150th appearance for the club, and for Alice Morrison in her first Div One start.  Impatience at the plate seemed to be a problem.  This team is a lot better than this showing, and no doubt will get through this.   Hits  :  Beth Lee, Alice Brown, Dakota Ding 1.

DIVISION TWO     at Don Klaebe Field Fri 8/11/24     v      Adelaide Blue

Lost 5-9

First loss for these girls, and it can be blamed on the poor start when we leaked five runs.  The comeback was inevitable, and we put a bit of a fright into them.  We used four pitchers to try to combat them, namely Ashlee Stradling (1K), Alice Morrison (1K), Dakota Ding (2K)  and Indie O'HazyZschorn (5K), and the hits came from Molly Brown, Kym Wilson 2, Alice Morrison, Jemila Dad 1.

JUNIORS

U17     Away v Sth Districts Sun 10/11/24

Draw 6-6

Got themselves into a bit of a pickle, but the last ditch effort to force the draw was amazing.  Plenty of late heros, Diesel with his double, Ollie with his seven strikeouts, all backed up by Seb and his four K's and two hits, and Ollie VanDommelle, Ollie Hayes and Dakota Ding's hit each.

Junior League U15 11-11 draw VS Sturt

Great team effort and come back from 11-5 down going into bottom of last. We used 4 pitchers who all tried hard Luke Fawcett 3 strikeouts and 1 each to the other 3, some top team hitting particularly in the last inning we had it tied up and 2 outfield catches to Sturt denied us the win.

Hits Arlo Cockshell 2, Archie Wallis 1, Luke Fawcett 1, Benji Hayes 1, Chace Wallis 1, Xavier Gower 1

U13

Winners 8-7 over Henley & Grange at home. First win of the season. Wow, what a fantastic team performance in a game played in great spirits and great weather on the main diamond. Kylah was superb on the mound, keeping them scoreless, and with contributions down the entire batting line-up saw us lead 6-0 after 3 innings. Things tightened up with H&G putting runs on the board but Isaac stepped up to force the last 2 outs we needed.

Pitching: Kylah - 3.0 innings, 9 strikeouts, no walks and only 1 hit. Myles and Chris picked up 1 strikeout each.

Hits: Olive 2, Kylah (triple), Isaac, Major, Kasper, Aldeyna, Alex and Laura 1 each.

U11 Minor League win on a forfeit

Peewee had  a good turnout and had 10 players. The team did well and really turned it on with the bats in the third inning which was good to see.

DIVISION ONE     Away v Sth Districts Sat 2/11/24

Lost 0-10

Didn't see it coming, didn't feel it coming, but it came - our first defeat for the season.  We did it hard all day, from AJ not hitting the mark early to our almost complete lack of hitting.  There were no errors in our game, but we just seemed to be lethargic, and weren't our usual sharp selves.  They got an early run and then we let them in with some unearned stuff until Drew took the ball and slowed them down.  They put a few over with runners on which didn't help matters, and we didn't look like making a game of it.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen 2.  Simply - an off day.

DIVISION TWO     Away v Sth Districts Sat 2/11/24

WON 7-6

Always nice to come from behind on an away field.  A Declan bunt got us going and we were four up by the fourth when Harry walked and Tom singled for a couple, but the Hawks got their bats going and by the last we were down 4-6.  No worries - Luke, Harry and Tom singled for a run and Todd's double put another two over the plate for the lead.  Troy weathered the pressure to hold them in their last, but did anyone see Declan's homer to give us our first run in the fourth?  It seems it nearly went unnoticed (?), except for Tim who celebrated with high fives.  Hits  :  "Two hit" Tom Dinneen, Todd Dunstall, Declan Quinn (HR) 2, Harrison Kiss, Armando Ramiraz, Ryan Straddling, Luke Taylor 1.

DIVISION THREE     Away v Sth District Sat 2/11/24

Lost 2-8

No excuses - we don't make 'em - but it was good to see the blend of experience and up and comers making a fist of it under hard circumstances..  Ryan Stradling took the new ball in his mound debut for us and acquitted himself superbly, giving nothing away in his first two digs, until he got the stitch and let them in for a few.  It was at this point that a long awaited reappearance in the batting box of a semi-retired (?) stalwart, in front of his giggling array of admirers managed to put one over the fence.  Should have been on the six o'clock news.  Hits  : Todd Dunstall, Ryan Stradling, Rhys Owen (HR), Amara Quinn, Luke Taylor 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Both Red and Blue teams lost, but as details were not forthcoming, that's all she wrote.

WOMEN’S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE     At Don Klaebe Field Sun 3/11/24     v     Adelaide

WON 11-1 (Mercy)

Alice Brown took to the mound and took on the opposition in no mean feat going the distance in a fine display. We showed our intent in the second when Amara walked, Alice B singled, as did Jemila and Kelsie walked for one, and Dakota grounded out for our second.  We scored the maximum seven in the next, followed by two, almost seeing Indie emulating her in the park home run of last week, settling for a triple.  Very, very good.  Hits  :  Alice Brown 2, Indie O'Hazy Zschorn, Beth Lee, Jemila Dadd, Kelsey Goldspink 1.

DIVISION TWO     Away v Gawler     Fri 1/11/24     WON 5-3

Nice to record a win after the trip to Gawler on a work evening at a 6.00pm start.  Our pitching was the key, with Alice Morrison and Indie O'Hazy Zschorn each recording three strikeouts and Dakota Ding two, and the hits coming from Jemila Dadd 3, Alice Brown, Rachel Page 2, Alice Morrison, Dakota Ding, Molly Brown 1.

Senior League defeated Port 3-2

U15 (Junior League)

5-3 vs West Torrens win, great team performance on the back of some excellent pitching by starter Chace Wallis 7 strikeouts through 5 innings and Archie Wallis in relief for the final inning, Hits Remy Brooks 2, Archie Wallis 1, Luke Fawcett 1, Chace Wallis 1, Xavier Gower 1

U13 (Little League)

Lost 8-4 at home to Northern Districts. Started slowly with Norths jumping out to a 5-1 lead after 2. Kylah struck out 3 in the 3rd and a rally looked possible when Ely knocked in 2 off a nice double to right field. Players showed improvement from last week and a few learning opportunities were identified. Kylah and Myles pitched well, throwing lots of strikes. Kylah struck out 8 through 3.0 innings and Myles 5 strikeouts over 2.0 innings.

Hits: Ely, Chris

Minor League lost 8-4
