DIVISION ONE DOUBLE HEADER at Don Klaebe Field 3.11.19

Game One v Port Adelaide

WON 2-1

Looking for a win against Port, and with Rhett Feser in fine form on the mound, we achieved our aim.  The Maggies scored in the second, but our boys started to get to their pitcher in the sixth after a slow start and brought in two runs to clinch the deal.  Rhett flushed them out 1-2-3 in the final dig for the win.  Nathan Nicholson's catching at first base was a highlight, as was the pitching from both hurlers.  Hits : Tom Dineen 2, Gary Owens, Ethan Marchioro, Troy Nicholson, Nathan Nicholson 1.

Game Two v Port Adelaide

Lost 2-10

Quickly away, Port slammed on three, and while we put runners on, didn't score.  Troy gave way for his brother on the mound as the Port batters got behind some big ones, and would have had a lot more on the board if it hadn't been for some outstanding double plays - pop-up catch and the put out at first - twice.  As in the first game, we started to hit late and managed to put a couple of runs up, but any comeback was shortlived.  Gary put the brakes on.  Hits :  Gary Owens, Nathan Nicholson, Troy Nicholson, Brayden Marchioro 1.

DIVISION TWO at Don Klaebe Field v Port Adelaide

WON 16-2

Ten runs in the first dig set the scene, with a three RBI double by Rhys, ditto by Vic and another RBI single and a steal by Rhys all contributing.  But now Rhys had to earn his keep by performing from the middle, which he did in emphatic fashion by going the distance and giving up a miserly two runs.  He had his mates as well, who all helped bring in the result, being errorless all day.  Hits : Rhys Owen 4, Todd Dunstall, Vic Benveltzen, Brayden Marchioro 2, Ryan Marsland (HR), James Chu 1.

DIVISION FOUR

Lost to East Torrens 5-28.

We were never really in the hunt, with the Redsox bats being in control.  Joel and Carly put some hits together and Dave and Azza tried valiantly from the mound, but the other mob were a bit too good.

DIVISION SIX

Came up against a dominant East Torrens team and had their colours lowered by having a hitless game and went down 0-9.  Sully and Behr were brave pitchers, but we came up short for the first time in a long while.

DIVISION SEVEN

Also got the yips out at Payenham and lost 1-18

WOMEN'S LEAGUE  -  at Don Klaebe Field  v Kensington

WON 10-2

Kenzi managed one to start proceedings with a run but we responded immediately with four, on the back of good aggressive hitting and base running.  We scored a maximum five in a later innings to really seal it.  Darna pounded Carly's glove all night, which was too much for the Kensi girls, and they were well backed up by the girls in the field.  Hits : Leah Turner, Louise Bartle, Kensi St.George, Million Baheta 1.

UNDER 17

Went out to Kensington and came home with a draw 9-9.  Still unbeaten so far this season.  Hits : Cody Tape, Blake O"Brien, Harrison Kiss, Aldo McCormack, Owen Williams, Alex Blake, Bailey Gibbs.  Owen Williams threw.

UNDER 13 Played on the back diamond and were defeated by Goodwood 4-19.

UNDER 11

Looking good, with their second successive win for the year, by beating the Sturt side 10-2.  Jacob had two hits, Bodhi hit a double and Matthew got one hit. The pitchers are killing them with Oliver striking out four and Lincoln three. Chase only threw nine pitches in total, but struck out two, with seven going over the plate.  Great work kids!

Not too many wins in a weekend of baseball that started badly when our Ladies lost to last year's premiers, and finished off with our senior teams not able to meet the standards set by West Torrens.  The only outfits to fly the flag were the all conquering Div Six, the Under 17's and Under 11's.

DIVISION ONE     At Don Klaebe Field     v     West Torrens

Lost 0-12

The Eagles were all over us all day, and to rub salt into the wounds,we had our only bit of joy denied when Troy N crossed home plate only to be told that he had left early.  Apart from Troy's two hits for the day, we struggled to lay bat on ball, and as the day progressed and frustration set in, we started to let the errors creep in.  Troy and his brother tried valiantly on the hill, but the big hitting West Torrens boys took control, and had an emphatic win.

DIVISION TWO     At Don Klaebe Field     v     West Torrens

Lost 1-9

Rhys Owen continued his good form from the previous week and pitched six solid innings to leave the game at 0-4.  There were some good signs with the returning Peter Drover owning centre field and we turned a couple of nice double plays, but were let down by some sloppy base running.  Troy N came into the game and planted one over the left field fence, and the game was subsequently called.  Hits  :  Jackson Sowton, Rhys Owen, Jarrod Marsland, Troy Nicholson (HR) 1.

DIVISION FOUR     At Don Klaebe Field

Lost 4-22

Talk about the walking wounded!  At least three or four guys limped onto the field, and those that didn't at the start certainly did towards the end.  The pitching went like this  -  first Troy Kortekaas (limping), then Lodgy (did his hammy in his first innings), then Doggy with his sore shoulder (hurt his leg) then Azza who got through ok. Oh yes, third base Coach Sharz couldn't start.  Hits : Dave Lodge, Troy Kortekaas 2, Arron Petros, Blake O'Brien, Doggy, Ding 1.

DIVISION SIX     Away v Goodwood

WON 15-2

The Div Six boys, as I said before, went on their winning way by knocking off the Indians on their home turf.  Scotty Currie (go the Bays) pitched six in a solid performance, and the field backed him up.  Hits : Cam Britcher, Nick McCormack 3, Scott Currie, Sully 2, Couzner (birthday boy), Geyer, Teakle, Stradling 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Lost at home 4-12.

Casey Moore and Keith Mortimore did all the hard work from the mound, but the Ram's boys got the upper hand and went on to a good win.  No hits recorded - Judy had to dash off to the shops and forgot.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

Went to Sturt to combat the premier team from last season, and came away with their tails between their legs, having lost 0-16.  Still, there are plenty of wins ahead for this talented group.  Go girls.

UNDER 17

Won this encounter with Golden Grove in an exciting, come from behind, victory 13-12.  The game was strange with both teams scoring the maximum seven runs in their first innings, and then settling down to an even contest.  Good to get the result and keep the momentum going.  Hits : Harrison Kiss 3, Johnny VonSenden, Barry Eime 1.  Owen Williams and Harrison Kiss were the pitchers.

UNDER 13

Played on the back diamond against Goodwood with Beau Brownbill pitching. Zach Stanmeyre collected the only two hits as they went down 5-11.

UNDER 11

A great many happy and excited Mums, Dads, brothers, sisters, grannies, grandpas and kids, as these little tackers had their first win for their baseball careers over Goodwood 12-3, a game in which all played a part.  Some of the main contributors were Noah, who held onto a fly ball, and Dakota(2), Jacob (2) and Archie (1) who all hit well. Oliver (5 strikeouts), Archie (3)and Matthew (3) were all terrific.  Well done.

DIVISION ONE  vs Adelaide at Don Klaebe Field 20.10.19

Lost 1-11

Seven errors that lead to nine unearned runs is not going to help you win a game of baseball against a side that showed us how to hit the ball.  It was a completely different game from our boys in comparison to the previous week, when they showed confidence and good form.  The Angels got a couple on the board in the first and we got one back in the second after a strong hit down the third base line got Jimmy Chu a stand-up double, and Nathan Nicholson got him home.  But the game was lost in the fourth innings when their bats fired up for six runs and our defence was not up to the task.  Poor old Rhett couldn't stem the flow, and first Troy and then Nathan tried, but to no avail.  Well, let's hope we have got this bad one out of the system.  Hits :  Todd Dunstall 2, Troy Nicholson, Jackson Sowton, James Chu, Nathan Nicholson 1.

DIVISION TWO vs Adelaide at Don Klaebe Field 20.10.19

WON 6-2

The game began quietly, with Rhys looking the goods on the mound, putting them away virtually in order.  He continued in this fashion for six digs in a match winning performance, also belting a double to score two in the sixth, but had some mates that contributed in no small order, an example being Jarrod Marsland's delightful bunt in the fifth, when he bamboozled the fielder long enough for Will to reach third and get home on Ryan's sac-fly.  A three run seventh innings knocked the stuffing out of Adelaide, with Ash Miller and Todd all contributing and Will making a fancy play at short stop look easy.  Rhys got the stitch and let Ethan close it out for a very good win.  Hits:  Brayden Marchioro 4, Rhys Owen, Jarrod Marsland, Ryan Marsland, Peter Drover 1.

DIVISION FOUR

Drew the raw prawn and had to travel all the way down South for game one of the season, and came away without the bickies, going down 0-17. David Lodge recorded the only hit.

DIVISION SIX

Great start to the season, with a handful of Div Six rookies and hardened campaigners combining to form what should be a formidable side for last year's Div Seven premiers.  Sully kept them on their toes and we got six in the first, and the runs just kept coming and coming and coming.  Jobu's hit scored two, so his reward was to sit out the rest of the day.  The win finished up 23-4 and the hits were Couzner, Geyer 4, McCormack, Britcher, Sullivan, Teakle 3, Reval, Behrendt, Fawcett, Mortimore 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Good game for spectators, as it changed hands a few times and kept everyone on their toes.  Casey showed promise on the mound, and the boys hit well at times.  We let Port get in front by eight, then we pegged them back and hit the front with one innings to go but couldn't get those last three outs and wen down 11-16.  Get 'em next time.  Hits  : Derek Milne 2, Nick McCormack, Casey Moore, Shane Lodge, Craig Mortimore, Tony Brownhill, Noel Watson 1.

UNDER 17

Another truly entertaining encounter with the boys giving up three runs in the first, then gutsing it out in real Woodville fashion to claim a draw 5-5.  Owen Williams and Harrison Kiss pitched well and hits were Harrison Kiss, Blake O'Brien 2, Owen Williams 1.

UNDER 13

Went out to East Torrens and came home narrow losers.  A win is just around the corner.

UNDER 11

Doggies little team of champions played a terrific game against the Hawks and lost narrowly 6-7 in what was a delight to watch. Lots of  endeavour, lots of laughs, lots of fumbles, lots of smiles, lots of runs, lots of fun.  Alice and Oliver managed hits, and Matthew struck one out, Archie and Chase two each, and Oliver struck out three.
