DIVISION ONE At Don Klaebe Field

Twilight Tue 20.02.23 v Nth Districts

WON 8-0

We didn't power away from the Northeners, but instead just kept our noses in front all evening, due to tight pitching from Cesar and some sensible hitting by all the team.  Eleven hits in the seven inning game speaks for itself.  Cesar went four innings with seven strikeouts, Troy was his usual efficient self for two, and Joel mopped up with three strikeouts to put them to bed in the last.  Finners and Troy both doubled in the third, and Drew hit a two run double in the fifth, and Wade was super consistant all night. We left three runners on base on two occasions, so it's not too much to think we might have had many more on the board.  Hits  :  Wade Moore 3, Troy Nicholson, Joel Chapman 2, Cesar Perez, Drew Janssen, Mitch Fienemann, Nick Kuhn 1.

DVISION ONE At Don Klaebe Field

Sat 24.02.24 v Sturt

WON 10-7

The Sainters went a million miles an hour in the first and posted three, but we pegged them back with two of our own and kept just the one run behind for the next two digs, but at the end of seven we were in a bit of a spot at 5-7-down.  We had been playing top baseball with AJ going beautifully and double plays were featuring along with some good hitting as exemplified by a great solo home run by Finners, doubles by Heeny and Greg, and Wade being his consistant self with RBI's.  They changed pitchers and last years Capps Medallist came into the game but we handled him pretty well and after Troy got on base and Joel bunted him around and then Heeny smashed one to the outfield to score him and Greg loaded the bases with a single and a couple of walks they changed pitchers again and the coach took the ball.  Cesar's eyes lit up and he hit a huge bomb to score four and it was game over.  Drew had relieved AJ after six and just snuffed them out, as he had done earlier in the season.  Nice win to consolidate second.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez (GSHR) 3, Wade Moore, Greg Bravo 2, Mitch Fienemann (HR), Joe Papps, Breandan Taheny 1.

DIVISION TWO At Don Klaebe Field

Sat 24.02.24 v Sturt

Lost 0-5

Hits were as rare as hen's teeth and Tyson was well in control through five and came out at 0-1.  Ray relieved him and got himself in a bit of a fix and threw a fair few walks and Finners took over to stem the flow.  Made finals but must play away next week as a result.  Hits  : Joe Papps, Armando Ramirez, Jose Ramirez 1.

DIVISION THREE At Don Klaebe Field

Sat 24.02.24

WON 5-4

Very quiet game early with Declan giving them nothing, but our bats weren't firing either and it was not until the fifth that we got going and tied the score at 4-4.  Enter Freddy, to hit a biggy and score Elvin to walk it off. Diesel had relieved Tyson in a real good close.  Hits  :  Freddy Aguilar, Luke Taylor, Diesel Fallon 1.  Just missed finals.

DIVISION SIX lost to Kensington

DIVISION SEVEN - Red

Away v H&G

Lost 7-11

Last game for the season for this fun machine.  Couldn't pull off a win but were super competitive, and missed out on finals again.  Hits  :  Aaron Petros, Derek Milne, Justin Randall, Tony Tuttle 2, Kim Soung, Shane Lodge, Matt Davey 1.

DIVISION SEVEN - Blue

at home v Flinders

WON 10-8

Fun day with positions pulled out of the hat at the start.  Some unusual spots with Pope pitching to Watto but it was all good.  Casey and Behr were solid on the hill, and Cam was the standout with the bat.  Got into trouble early being down 2-8, but seven runs in the fourth got us back on track.  No finals, so some of the other mobs can rest easy.  Hits  :  Cam 3, Morty, Behr 2, Nate, Cuz, Fitzy, Nicko, Watto 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

v Glenelg away Sun 25.02.24     Lost 3-8

A real gutsy, fighting effort from a team decimated by injuries, illness, interstate transfers, personal reasons and work commitments.  The ladies who took the field today should all stand proudly as they flew the Club's colours high.  No Carly, Darna, Meggsie, Ella, Ash, Sarah, Alyssa, Catie (did I miss anyone?).  Hits  :  Jemila Dadd 2, Leah Turner, Louise Pelle 1.

Amara was terrific from the middle.

DIVISION TWO At Don Klaebe Field

Fri 23.02.24 v WTorrens

Lost 5-13

A bad inning early set us back, but with Di to the rescue, we steadied, fought back and closed to four down, only to see the others go ahead again.

Hits  :  Dakota Ding 2 (along with her three strikeouts), Alice Brown, Leah Turner 1.

JUNIORS

Senior League Under 17s cemented top of the ladder heading into the finals behind an impressive pitching display by Oliver Hayes who held a hot rolling Kensington to 0 runs during his outing. He was ably supported to the strong batting line up of the team, with the whole lineup putting very solid bat on ball all day, special mention to Tommy who not only smashed a double but made a fantastic barehanded play and came on to close out the game in the last innings. The team really showed that they are strong finals contenders who are clean and efficient in the field, making great defensive plays.

Junior League (U15)  Div1

vs Glenelg/West Torrens 10-2 win.

In our final minor round game of the season, with 3rd spot and a home final for week 1 secured we ventured to the bay to play the combined Glenelg/WT team.  The game was pretty tight for first couple of innings with pitching on both sides dominating before we broke it open and eventually ran away with it 10-2.  Again some great pitching from Alice Brown with 8 strikeouts in 4 innings of work & Sebastian Bravo with 2 strikeouts in 1 inning of relief. Some good team hitting.  Hits were: Chace Wallis 2 (double), Seb Bravo 2 (double), Luke Fawcett 2, Will Stock 2, Archie Wallis 1.

Onto the finals next week possibly vs Pt Adelaide at home.

Intermediate League (U14)

Woodville vs Adelaide 19-4 loss.

Our last home game for the year against the very strong Adelaide we battled hard but a couple of big hits and big innings helped Adelaide out.  Our pitchers Luke Fawcett & Anton Kumar and catcher Remy Brooks tried hard and a great double play by Eli Plaves off a nice catch at 2nd base and Arlo Cockshell's good efforts in the outfield and a lovely hard hit double to left field being the highlights.  The team will play in finals vs top side GGCD next week in what will be a very tough assignment.  Hits were: Anton Kumar 2, Luke Fawcett 1, Francis Calo 1, Arlo Cockshell 1 (double), Eli Plaves 1.

Little League (U13)

Played Port Adelaide at home to wrap up the last official season's game. They won 15 to 0 and showcased to their supporters and families the vast improvement they had achieved in skills and game knowledge over the season. The team should be proud of a great season and look forward to playing in the finals, which is well deserved.

Batting:

Ely 2 hits (1 double), 2 runs.

Archie 2 hits (1 in field home run), 2 runs

Myles 2 hits, 2 runs

Felix 1 double, 2 runs

Kylah 1 hit, 2 runs

Riley 1 hit

Mochi 1 hit

Bodi 1 run

Poppy 2 runs

Michael 2 runs

Pitching:

Archie 3 innings,  10 batters faced, 38 pitches.

Kylah 1 inning, 3 batters faced, 8 pitches.

U11 Minor League

A season of learning and development drew to a close with a 13-0 loss to Golden Grove, who had a couple of very good pitchers. Chris finished the season with another good display of pitching. He was backed up by James, Alex and then Cooper, who found some rhythm and struck out the side in the 4th innings. Harrison continued to show improvement in his game and was busy at 2B.

Hits: James Lodge 1.

FINALS

Exciting times - Div One and Div Two have made the finals as has Under 17's, Under 15's and Under 13's and the Woman's Div One.

DIVISION ONE

Away v Adelaide - Twilight Tue 13.02.24

WON 3-1

Second game in four days against the Angels, and coming off a win, we went into the contest with a fair amount of confidence.  They got their solitary run in the first with a contested play at the plate, and it was not until the fifth that we started to string together a few hits.  Greg Bravo - just off the plane from LA that morning - got us going score wise when his hit put us on the board, and Wade's hit up the middle got Nathan home for our second.  Incidentally, Nathan's outfield catch was a beauty - and critical.  Drew was giving them nothing, and went the distance, snuffing them out towards the finish in a real positive performance.  Freddy came into the game in the last after replacing Wade, and knocked in an RBI to give us a bonus run.  Hits  :  Wade Moore, Joel Chapman 2, Drew Janssen, Breandan Taheny, Nathan Nicholson, Freddy Aguila 1.  Excellent result, which leaves us sitting on third to date.

DIVISION ONE

Away v Port Adelaide Sat 17.02.24

WON 13-3

Both pitchers on top for the best part of the first half of the game until Joel doubled and Kuhna got him home, but they managed to tie it up in  the next.  Then Wade singled and Cesar hit a double and both scored on Troy's hit.  We then loaded the bases and got lucky with a walked in run.  At this stage - 5-3 up and the heavens opened up for us with a two run Cesar homer followed two balls later by Drew's solo shot and Greg hit a double to further the scoring - six for the dig.  But wait, there's more, Drew was not finished and put another over in the last to add another two.  AJ had a great day and went six, and allowed Troy to knock them over in the last three and move us up to second on the ladder.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez (HR), Drew Janssen (2HR) 3, Joel Chapman, Breandan Taheny, Greg Bravo 2, Wade Moore, Nick Kuhn, Mitch Fienemann 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v Port Adelaide Sat 17.02.24

Lost 7-8

Just the one inning that absolutely killed us as the Maggies put on six in the second, negating Tyson's efforts - not much help from the defence.  However to our credit, we fought back hard in our usual fashion with a Muggsy bunt, a Manny single and a Heeny single to put on four and tied the game away at seven apiece until they got one to hit the front. Tyson did his darndest, and Finners and Joel stopped the rot at the end.  Hits  :  Joe Papps 2, Jose Ramirez, Freddy Aguilar, Armando Ramirez, Breandan Taheny 1.

DIVISION THREE

Away v Port Adelaide Sat 17.02.24

Lost 3-6

We started ok, hitting but not scoring - Luke double and Jimmy to the fence, but we lost the plot and let them in for a five run dig, see above.  This time it was Declan that was not being backed up as he should.  But we fought back again and came good with RBI's from Diesal and Dave, but failed to catch them.  Diesel relieved for three innings, allowing only the one run.  Hits  :  Ollie Hayes, Luke Taylor, Harrison Kiss 1.

DIVISION SIX

Away v East Torrens Sat 17.02.24

Lost 5-7

We gave the ladder leaders a real run for their money with great pitching from Andrew Eime and Doggie, and fine catching in the outfield  by Shaun Wallis.  The stars with the bats were  :  Phil Zschorn 2 (double), Flash (double), Gomez, Doggie, Shaun, Brett Kelly 1.

DIVISION SEVEN - Blue

At home v Adelaide Yellow

Lost 7-11

We let one of the top sides off the hook by letting them get five in the first and then four in the last, but we kept respect by bagging six in our last at bat.  We left a few too many runners out there, and were not helped by the defensive plays.  Casey was excellent from the mound, and Cuz and the Pope were the batting stars.  Hits  :  Cuz 3, Pope 2, Rev, Nicko, Sully, Fitzy, Dorny 1.

DIVISION SEVEN - Red

At GGCD

Lost 7-14

Some real good performances here, especially the Kim boys and young Shane N.  Hits  : Kim Soung 3, Kim Hoony, Shane Nicholson 2, Andy Vuong, Matt Davies 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

Away v Sturt Sun 18.02.24

WON 6-2

Top win this, again under adverse circumstances.  Alyssa was taken to hospital by Ambulance late in the game with a knee problem.  Our best wishes go out to her.  The girls pulled out their best against the top team this year in a cracking result. Hits  :  Megan BoersVeen 2, (great to see), Leah Turner, Sarah McMahon, Alyssa Lasscock 1.

DIVISION TWO

At home v H&Grange Fri 16.02.24

WON 6-5

Great to see a game where all our girls are showing vast improvement. Had to fight hard to get the result, but that's what it is all about at the Senators.  Dakota pitched and had four strikeouts, Indie followed with five, and both pitchers were ably assisted by some super doubleplays.  Hits  :  Di Barry 2, Alice Brown, Kym Wilson, Mel Askin 1.

JUNIORS

U11

Lost 12-0.

Toiled hard, with Chris pitching well across the first 2 innings, reaching his pitch limit with us only 1-0 down. A couple of hits in our first innings unfortunately didn’t turn into runs, with runners left on base.

Hits: Laura 1, Kasper 1

Pitching (strikeouts): Chris 4, James 1, Laura 2.

Little League (U13)

Was a roller coaster of events for the team. The team had the game in lockdown during the first three innings with a good lead. Felix controlled Southern Districts's batters while the team built the run difference every at bat. However, the tables turned, and Southern Districts took charge of the 4th and 5th innings, which required the team to rally in the bottom on the 5th to ensure a win instead of a draw. They did so with each other's support, resulting in a 14 to 7 win against the 3rd-ranked team.

Batting:

Riley 4 hits (2 doubles) 4 runs

Felix 3 hits (1 double, which was inches from a home run) 1 run

Archie 2 hits (1 triple) 2 runs

Myles 2 hits 2 runs

Michael 2 hits 2 runs

Ely 2 runsIsaac 1 run

Pitching:

Felix 4 innings, 12 strikeouts

Kylah 1 innings, 2 strikeouts

Intermediate League (U14)

Enjoyed another Sunday evening of Baseball with the team playing a competitive game against Port Adelaide at Port Adelaide. However, sadly, they lost the game 6 to 2. Both teams kept the opposition batters in check, with only a couple of safe hits being made for the whole game. The game ended with an entertaining demonstration of skills learnt from Friday's lead training.

Junior League (U15) Div 1

Woodville def Pt Adelaide 6-5

Great tussle, 3rd vs 4th. They started off the scoring with a home run, but we battled hard and got the lead back, eventually leading 4-2 mid way through the game, they then tied it up and then took the lead 5-4 in top 5th, some great team batting in bottom 5th saw us get over the line with a walk off RBI walk to Dakota Ding.  Great effort again from Alice Brown with 8 strikeouts and Seb Bravo steady in relief striking out the last hitter.  Hits were Chace Wallis 1 (double), Will Stock 1, Benji Hayes 1, Remy Brooks 1, Anton Kumar 1.  We have now secured 3rd spot and a home final for week 1.

Senior League (U17)

Won 8-1

A complete team effort with Oliver Van Dommelle getting his first start of the year on the mound and working a couple of great no hit innings, he was ably relieved by Ollie Hayes who slammed the door by keeping the Goodwood bats silent and allowed Tommy J to come in and close the game out. All hit very well with every player reaching base and passing the torch to the next player to allow the team to rack up runs with ease. Benji Hayes reaching base in his two attempts, putting the ball in play hard and then sacrificing the skin of his elbow to reach base with a bit by pitch. A good solid all round team effort against a future finals opponent.

GODANATS!!

DIVISION ONE

Away v E.Torrens Twilight Tue 6.02.24

DRAW 4-4

The game looked so easy in the first as Wade doubled, Cesar advanced him and a Drew sac fly scored. Simple. History almost repeated in the third with, once again, a Wade hit, a Cesar hit, a Drew hit and a Finners double scoring another two.  They equalised in the same dig, when we had a big opportunity to close them down but missed a double play to end their inning, allowing three runs.  Drew was in control on his way to ten strikeouts, and after seven, we had to go into extras, and we were in the box seat with batters 1-2-3 up.  We got one with a walk following the Coach making changes, but couldn't hold them and we finished with yet another draw - our third for the season.  Hits  :  Wade Moore 2, Cesar Perez, Mitch Fienemann, Drew Janssen 1.

DIVISION ONE

At Don Kleabe Field Sat 10.02.24 v Adelaide     WIN 8-7

Terrific game, a must win game, and a satisfying result in that we were challenged and had to come from behind on a couple of occasions.  The Angels were a bit ahead of us on the ladder, so we needed the win to hang in there.  They got to four up in the third, but a two run dinger by Drew followed up in the same dig by Troy with a two run over the fence shot of his own for the evener slowed them up a tad.  AJ was solid and the excitement kept coming with another Drew homer, and a Joel home plate steal allowed Troy to move around and come home on DChap's RBI.  They passed up Drew at his next plate appearence, but Finners reacted and brought in a run.  The boys from Plympton kept coming and got another two, but we prevailed with the bottom of the ninth still up our sleeves.  Hits  :  Troy Nicholson (HR) 3, Drew Janssen (2HR) 2, Cesar Perez, Joel Chapman, Daniel Chapman, Jose Ramirez, Nick Kuhn 1.  Canteen and bar were busy as all day, nice to see a couple of old stalwarts jumping in at one stage to give a hand - namely Behr and Cam.  The regular contributors need congratulating.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 10.02.24 v Adelaide     Lost 4-9

Dec was in trouble early and conceded a few runs, so Finners stepped in for two digs to slow them down and Ray had a go then Nathan closed them down but the damage had been done and they were six nil up.  We finally scored when d/h Aldo caused some errors from their first baseman and we got two, and a triple off the bat of Taheny put in two more.  Doesn't do the finals chances any good, but they are hanging in there.  Hits  :  one each to Joe Papps, Breandan Taheny and Andrew Chapman.

DIVISION THREE

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 10.02.24 v Adelaide     WIN 3-2

We were really looking good batting wise and the battery of Tyson to Freddy was potent - so why just the one run win?  I guess their guy on the hill was ok also as it was closely fought all day, as we only got our runs in dribs and drabs - one in the third with Aldo's RBI, in the fourth from Diesel's, and in the fifth when Freddy got one home.  Seven quality innings from Tyson was the standout, really moving into his work, and the coaching debut of Wally was impressive - Dave was at a wedding.  Amara certainly can do some damage sliding into second.  Hits  :  Aldo McCormack, Diesel Fallon 2, Damian Wall, Freddy Aguilar, Jimmy Chu, Ray Han, Amara Quinn 1.  No Kossi this week - gone to see Taylor!

DIVISION SIX

Were away to Adelaide and lost by the narrowist of margins 9-10.  It was a topsy-turvey affair with several lead changes, but we were left lamenting at the finish.  Hits  :  Andrew Eime 3, Braithwaite 2, Williams, Wilson, Brown, Mignone, Wallace, O'HazyZschorn 1.  Eime and Doggy were the pitchers,

DIVISION SEVEN Red

Were also away - to Goodwood and won 14-12 in a superior performance.  Kim Soung is proving to be deadly from the mound pitching to the ever present Mike Chemny, ably assisted by rookie coach Derek Milne.  Hits  :  Kim Hooney 3, Kim Soung, Justin Randall 2, Greg Oxenham, Tony Tuttle, Andy Vuong, Derek Milne 1.

DIVISION SEVEN Blue

Played at Don Klaebe Field and beat fifth placed GGCD 12-6 on the back of fine pitching by Sully, and some lusty hitting.  Can't make finals, but sure can make it difficult for some of the contenders.  Hits  :  Rev, Cuz, Nicko, Cam, Sully 2, Behr, Casey, Nate 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field Sun 11.02.24 v Adelaide     WIN 11-6

Good effort all round in a positive performance.  Amara put in a beauty from the middle and was backed up all game by her defence, led by the returning Carly (who still hasn't' brought me back a fossil), and double plays were plenty.  Not happy to see Darna go down with a knee, but Louise to the rescue - she was supposed to be benchwarming with her mangled finger, but rose to the occasion, gritted her teeth and came up with an important play.  We got the max in the third with a Carly treble, RBI Amara then Smack, then Alyssa and finally Carly.  Hits  : Carly Moore 3, Amara Quinn, Sarah McMahon, Indy OHazy-Zschorn 2, Alyssa Lasscock, Leah Turner 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away at Gawler Fri 9.02.24

Had a good win 15-3

JUNIORS

Senior League U17

v GGCD WON 11-2

Accounted for the Dodgers, showing the top of the table form.  Benji was fighting above his weight (and age) division catching to Diesel Fallon and Ollie VanDommelle, but handled it with aplomb.  Very good performance all round with the hitters being Charlotte Paech 2, Lachlan Stock, Oliver Hayes, Diesel Fallon 1.

Junior League U15 Div 1

Woodville def Sth Districts 7-2

After a sluggish start, our bats started firing in the 4th inning with a solo home run to Will Stock.  Some good pitching from both sides left it 1-1 after 4 innings we then got 6 runs in the final two frames to take it out comfortably. Again some outstanding pitching through five innings from Alice Brown giving up only one hit and striking out multiple hitters & Seb Bravo the birthday boy did well under some pressure in relief.

Hits were:Will Stock 3 (1hr), Chace Wallis 1, Benji Hayes 1, Seb Bravo 1(double), Alice Brown 1(double), Archie Wallis 1.

Intermediate League U14

Sth Districts def Woodville 7-3

A good strong start from us saw us 3-1 up after two innings, unfortunately some errors crept in and we gave up 4 runs in one inning.  On the whole the team played well under some hot conditions.  Some excellent pitching by Chace Wallis & Remy Brooks kept us in the game the whole way and Luke Fawcett did a good job catching in the heat and threw a runner out stealing.  Also a nice double play from Anton Kumar and Xavier Gower were highlights of the day. Chace Wallis had 6 strikeouts and Remy Brooks had 4.

Hits were:  Chace Wallis 3 (1 triple), Remy Brooks 2 & Xavier Gower 1

Little League U13

Score Woodville 21 to Goodwood 4

In today's Little League U13 game, Goodwood sharpened its defence and pitching skills. However, Woodville had a great day hitting the ball. It was a thrilling game where one side improved their play, but the other dominated with their strong batting performance, with many kids getting safe hits. Kylah showed off her athleticism with some great plays, stopping 2 line drive, with Felix crushing doubles beyond the cones.

Pitching

Kylah 3 innings,  5 strikeouts, 16 batters faced

Archie 2 innings, 6 strikeouts, 9 batters faced.

Batting

Ely 4 hits 3 runs

Felix 3 hits (all doubles), 3 runs

Riley 2 hits (1 double)

Bodi 2 hits (1 double), 1 run

Archie 2 hits (1 double)

Kylah 2 hits

Olive 3 runs

Mochi 2 hits, 3 runs

Francis 1 hit, 4 runs

Isaac 4 runs

Minor League U11

9-1 loss at home.

A tight battle through the first 2 innings, with Chris pitching strongly, but we weren’t able to string enough hits together to trouble the scorers, leaving 5 runners on base in the process. Alex and Laura came on to close out the game, and despite striking out a batter each, and with Chris and Kasper picking up some outs in the field, H&G scored more runs to put the game out of reach.

Hits: Harrison 2, Chris 1.

Pitching (strikeouts) Chris 5, Alex 1, Laura 1.
