DIVISION ONE vs Sth Districts at Don Klaebe Field Twilight 18.02.20
WON 9-2
We needed the win tonight to sweep the Hawks for this season, which we did it after a shaky start. We let them get two and made the mistake of leaving runners on base in two consecutive innings with one out, before clicking into gear and posting five runs in the fourth. Jimmy Chu hit to get on base, Jackson put down a great bunt and beat the throw, as did Will next up. Bases loaded, and their guy walked in two, before Gary belted one for a two RBI double, and Wade's sac fly scored another. Rhett sat down after five and Gary took over and they didn't score from then on. We got another three in the fifth and a bonus run in the sixth courtesy of Jackson, Jimmy and Troy who all continued to hit. Hits: Jimmy Chu, Jackson Sowton 3, Gary Owens 2, Troy Nicholson 1.
DIVISION ONE vs H & Grange at Don Klaebe Field 23.02.20
Lost 2-4
We gave the Rams with their much vaunted batting lineup a bit of a fright, by starving them of opportunities and keeping them scoreless for six of their innings. Their frustration was evident towards the latter part of the game with some bin kicking and bat and helmet throwing. Ethan took the new ball, and was relieved by Rhys after a couple who went six, then Vic and Rhett closed. We had some great plays, notably Gary to Troy to home plate where Jacko made the tough out. We had a depleted outfit, but the boys gave it their best shot. Hits: Troy Nicholson 3, Gary Owens, Nathan Nicholson 2, Callum Park 1.
DIVISION TWO vs H & Grange at Don Klaebe Field 23.02.20
Draw 6-6 Vic started and did four solid innings before Troy did the rest. Braydon Marchioro made a brief comeback after injury, and we led most of the day with a great catch and put-out at first by Ryan Marsland helping to keep them at bay. A nice high tennis shot got a couple of RBI's for Troy, and we led 3-0, but they kept whittling away and scored four in the last to take the lead. We managed three to equal but couldn't get one more for the win. So that is five draws so far for the season and a loss of five valuable points. Hits: Jackson Sowton 2, Troy Nicholson, Sam Kuhl, Nathan Nicholson 1.
DIVISION 4 found the going a bit hard and lost 0-18.
DIVISION SIX knocked off the Angels 8-7 in a game that started poorly, and it took all their experience to haul themselves back into the game. Behr and Sully won with some good pitching, and the hits were Couzner 3, Geyer, Currie 2, Behrendt, Marsland and Teakle 1.
DIVISION SEVEN lost 4-13 but had some good moments with Casey Moore doing a good job on the hill, and plenty of guys got bat on ball. Noel (Superbat) Watson got himself another two hits, and Derek Milne, Casey Moore, Shane Lodge, Mike Chemny and Keith Mortimore each had one.
WOMAN'S LEAGUE
Won 10-5 over Goodwood in an entertaining game, with just about everyone getting into the act. We had the pitching edge over the opposition with Darna and Tammy producing the goods. Hits: Carly Moore, Louise Bartel, Catie Berry 2, Ashleigh George, Tammy McMillan, Alyssa Lasscock, Darna Veen, Carol Ryan 1.
UNDER 17
With only eight players, the boys were far too good for Kensington and hammered away for a 19-2 victory. With Johnny Von Senden in control from the mound and multiple hitters, the game always seemed to be ours. Harrison Kiss showed his hitting power and speed by belting an in the park home run, and the other hitters were Aldo McCormack 3, Owen Williams, Barry Eime 2, Alex Black.
UNDER 13
Toby Kortekaas must have heard about Harrison's great effort in the Under 17's game, so he thought he might do the same, but he went one better by making a Grand Slam in the park home run. Well done to both these players. The team went under 9-15 unfortunately, but not before Dylan Nanasi got his first hit for the season with help from new glasses. So Toby Kortekaas amassed four hits, and Zach Stanmeyn got two.
UNDER 11
Got up in the last gasp to win 9-8 in a thrilling finish that had all the mums and dads on their feet. Lots of excitement and cheering. Oliver Van Domelle led the hits with two and Chase Wallis got one while Remy had a great game with two outfield catches and pitched two shutout innings, and Chase had an unassisted out. Great work people.
