DIVISION ONE  vs Sth Districts at Don Klaebe Field Twilight 18.02.20

WON 9-2

We needed the win tonight to sweep the Hawks for this season, which we did it after a shaky start.  We let them get two and made the mistake of leaving runners on base in two consecutive innings with one out, before clicking into gear and posting five runs in the fourth.  Jimmy Chu hit to get on base, Jackson put down a great bunt and beat the throw, as did Will next up.  Bases loaded, and their guy walked in two, before Gary belted one for a two RBI double, and Wade's sac fly scored another.  Rhett sat down after five and Gary took over and they didn't score from then on.  We got another three in the fifth and a bonus run in the sixth courtesy of Jackson, Jimmy and Troy who all continued to hit.  Hits:  Jimmy Chu, Jackson Sowton 3, Gary Owens 2, Troy Nicholson 1.

DIVISION ONE  vs H & Grange at Don Klaebe Field 23.02.20

Lost 2-4 We gave the Rams with their much vaunted batting lineup a bit of a fright, by starving them of opportunities and keeping them scoreless for six of their innings.  Their frustration was evident towards the latter part of the game with some bin kicking and bat and helmet throwing.  Ethan took the new ball, and was relieved by Rhys after a couple who went six, then Vic and Rhett closed.  We had some great plays, notably Gary to Troy to home plate where Jacko made the tough out.  We had a depleted outfit, but the boys gave it their best shot.  Hits: Troy Nicholson 3, Gary Owens, Nathan Nicholson 2, Callum Park 1.

DIVISION TWO vs H & Grange at Don Klaebe Field 23.02.20

Draw 6-6 Vic started and did four solid innings before Troy did the rest.  Braydon Marchioro made a brief comeback after injury, and we led most of the day with a great catch and put-out at first by Ryan Marsland helping to keep them at bay.  A nice high tennis shot got a couple of RBI's for Troy, and we led 3-0, but they kept whittling away and scored four in the last to take the lead.  We managed three to equal but couldn't get one more for the win.  So that is five draws so far for the season and a loss of five valuable points.  Hits: Jackson Sowton 2, Troy Nicholson, Sam Kuhl, Nathan Nicholson 1.

DIVISION 4 found the going a bit hard and lost 0-18.

DIVISION SIX knocked off the Angels 8-7 in a game that started poorly, and it took all their experience to haul themselves back into the game.  Behr and Sully won with some good pitching, and the hits were Couzner 3, Geyer, Currie 2, Behrendt, Marsland and Teakle 1.

DIVISION SEVEN lost 4-13 but had some good moments with Casey Moore doing a good job on the hill, and plenty of guys got bat on ball.  Noel (Superbat) Watson got himself another two hits, and Derek Milne, Casey Moore, Shane Lodge, Mike Chemny and Keith Mortimore each had one.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

Won 10-5 over Goodwood in an entertaining game, with just about everyone getting into the act.  We had the pitching edge over the opposition with Darna and Tammy producing the goods.  Hits:  Carly Moore, Louise Bartel,  Catie Berry 2, Ashleigh George, Tammy McMillan, Alyssa Lasscock, Darna Veen, Carol Ryan 1.

UNDER 17

With only eight players, the boys were far too good for Kensington and hammered away for a 19-2 victory.  With Johnny Von Senden in control from the mound and multiple hitters, the game always seemed to be ours.  Harrison Kiss showed his hitting power and speed by belting an in the park home run, and the other hitters were Aldo McCormack 3, Owen Williams, Barry Eime 2, Alex Black.

UNDER 13

Toby Kortekaas must have heard about Harrison's great effort in the Under 17's game, so he thought he might do the same, but he went one better by making a Grand Slam in the park home run.  Well done to both these players.  The team went under 9-15 unfortunately, but not before Dylan Nanasi got his first hit for the season with help from new glasses.  So Toby Kortekaas amassed four hits, and Zach Stanmeyn got two.

UNDER 11

Got up in the last gasp to win 9-8 in a thrilling finish that had all the mums and dads on their feet.  Lots of excitement and cheering.  Oliver Van Domelle led the hits with two and Chase Wallis got one while Remy had a great game with two outfield catches and pitched two shutout innings, and Chase had an unassisted out.  Great work people.

DIVISION ONE vs Sth. Districts at Don Klaebe Field - Twilight 11.02.20

WON 13-3

Good effort from Gary, going the distance and collecting three hits along the way, in a game in which everybody contributed.  We scored early, which is always nice, with two coming home on Troy's hit, but we really hit our straps in the fourth, scoring six, with their pitcher helping out with a couple of walked-in runs.    Nat was catching everything coming his way at first and then Gary slapped one for a triple and a RBI and Troy got him home, only to have his brother put one over the fence to score both of them.  Hits  :  Gary Owens 3, Troy Nicholson 2, Ethan Marchioro, Nathan Nicholson (HR), Jimmy Chu, Wade Moore, Jackson Sowton, Tom Dineen 1.

DIVISION ONE vs Kensington at Don Klaebe Field 16.02.20

Lost 1-8 Apart from a run given up in the first, Nat held the Kensi big hitters scoreless until they eventually broke out in the seventh inning.  A good defensive effort on our boys' behalf, with a couple of fine double plays showing off some skill.  Nat pitched well, gave way for Will for a couple, and then Ethan closed, but, all in all, their batting strength just wore us down in the end.  Hits  :  Ethan Marchioro, Gary Owens, Callum Park, Nathan Nicholson, Wade Moore 1.

DIVISION TWO vs Kensington 16.02.20

Lost 8-13 We missed some chances in the first, giving up four and played catch-up for the remainder of the game.  Vic pitched four and gave way for Troy just in time for us to have a rally in the fourth.  Ash, Vic, Pete Drover and Tom all hit to notch up five and we were level at seven all, but the Cardinals again powered away for the win.  Hits  :  Tom Dineen 3, Peter Drover, Ash Miller 2, Jackson Sowton, Troy Nicholson, Will Kortekaas, Vic Bentvelzen 1.  Finals looking dodgy.

DIV FOUR

Lost with all the damage being done early.  A good fightback couldn't provide a win.

DIV SIX had a tough fight on their hands up at Playford City, and with Marso pitching the game and leading a very efficient defence, they went on to take the two points  6-4.  Let's hope the injury woes clear up a bit now that finals are just around the corner.  Hits  :  Tim Fawcett, Teakle, Marso 2, Behr, Cam 1.  Our ex Pres made an appearance and the boys put him to work at rightfield - did ok.

DIV SEVEN

An extremely good team win with contributors all over the park in this 14-3 result.  Casey Moore continued his improvement on the mound, and hits came from Noel (Superbat) Watson 3, Mike Chemny, Shane Lodge 2, Derek Milne, Aaron Petros, Casey Moore, Keith Mortimore, Tony Brownbill, Tim Fawcett 1.  No - Terry didn't hit in either game.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

A satisfying win over Kensington away 18-0, and then treated to Valentine's gifts after the game.  Does not get any better.  All the girls did their bit in a top display.  Hits  :  Leah Turner, Ashleigh George 3, Rachel Coutie, Carly Moore, Tammy McMillan, Alyssa Lasscock, Catie Berry 2, Kerryn Fry 1.  Gearing up for finals.

UNDER 17

Also gearing up for finals, but didn't need this result at this stage.  Let's hope tha lessons are learnt.  Lost to Henley and Grange 4-8.  Hits  :  Cody Tape, Owen Williams 2, Aldo McCormack 1.  Nice catch Cody!!

UNDER 13

Lost to Sturt 10-8. Not too bad considering the scoreline at one stage was 1-10.  A pretty good comeback for the boys and girls.  Hits  :  Toby Kortekaas, Zach Stanmeyne, Ben Bynoe and Dash Carpenter all one each.

UNDER 11

Had a win over Kensington with Remy nominated as pitcher of the day striking out two.  Oliver also had two and Lincoln featured in an unassisted out with the hitters being Matthew, Noah, Oliver, Alice and Jacob.  Well done all.

DIVISION ONE     Twilight away v East Torrens 4.02.2020

Lost 1-5

Nothing much happened for the first three and a half innings with both defences holding sway, but we blinked in the bottom of the fourth and provided them with a couple of walks and a couple of errors which turned into a four run inning.  That's all it took, as the rest of the game was tightly fought with only one run each.  We tried to bridge the gap, and played some good solid baseball, but let ourselves down at times, especially with our sixth at bat only lasting four pitches.  The Redsox are finals contenders, and on that showing, we are not a million miles behind them.  Hits :  Troy Nicholson, Todd Dunstall, Tom Dineen.  Gary shared the pitching duties with Nathan.  A little luck wouldn't have hurt either, with Rhett caught on the fence and Troy hitting the top of the fence  -  oh well.

DIVISION ONE     Away v Sth Districts 9.02.20

WON 8-5

A very satisfying win against a side that is struggling a bit, but shows a lot of fight.  We were never headed all day after scoring in the first and putting on four more in the fourth thanks to Rhys and Tom loading the bases.  A couple of walks helped, but the locals rallied and scored a couple when we had a very sloppy inning, thankfully our only real blemish for the day.  Rhett came out in the sixth and Will gave a little cameo performance, before Gary closed.  Jacko came into the game with immediate impact, and got Nat home with head's-up base running, then scored a triple and came home on Harry's sac fly.  Hits  :  Ethan Marchioro 3, Gary Owens, Nathan Nicholson 2, Jackson Sowton, Callum Park, Troy Nicholson, Rhys Owen, Tom Dineen 1.

DIVISION TWO     Away v Sth Districts 9.02.20

WON 9-5

Tight game, very close all day with a three run bomb by Troy Nicholson in our last inning proving to be the clincher.  Troy also pitched four solid innings after Ash hurt his arm, and we had good contributors in the batting box all day.  A pleasing aspect was base running, which has really picked up of late.  Hits  :  Todd Dunstall, Will Kortekaas 2, James Chu, Troy Nicholson (HR), Harrison Kiss, Jarrod Marsland 1.

DIV FOUR had a closeish game against East Torrens but didn't get the chocolates.

DIV SIX and DIV SEVEN both played at home and both lost to Golden Grove, with the Sixers still in the finals hunt and winning the last few games are a must.  In the sevens' game Noel Watson, Derek Milne, Aaron Petros, Casey Moore and Tim Russell all had a hit each.

No Womens' game this week.

Under 17's  -  Missed them last week, but can report that they had a loss to Henley and Grange 3-10 with Owen Williams collecting two hits and Aldo McCormack one, then a washout, and then another loss 5-7 to top side Sturt in what their Coach described to me as an undisciplined display.  Harrison Kiss had two hits, and Cody Tape, Blake O'Brien and Owen Williams had one.  Still sitting third on the ladder, but can't afford many more losses before the playoffs.

U13 went South and narrowly lost, but the U11 boys and girls had a nice win over Southern Districts 8-2 to sneak a bit further up the ladder.
