DIVISION ONE vs Goodwood at Don Klaebe field 24.11.19

WON 6-2

On an absolutely perfect day for baseball - and anything else for that matter - and with Gary firing up on the mound, we put it to Goodwood in no uncertain  terms.  Baseball is good to watch when the bats start connecting and our boys really got into the groove and put on a fine display, with ten safe hits.  The Indians got one in the first, but we countered with two of our own, and then lit up the diamond in the second with four more.  Nathan and Gary picking up RBI's, as the batters kept finding the gaps.  No more scoring as the pitchers and the defences kept things tight, and the expected big hitting from Goodwood never eventuated.  Rhett came on after seven as the perfect relief and closed out.  Terrific effort all round.  Hits: Nathan Nicholson 3, Troy Nicholson, Wade Moore 2, Todd Dunstall, Ethan Marchioro, Gary Owens,1.

DIVISION TWO vs Goodwood at Don Klaebe Field 24.11.19

WON 2-0

Our opening battery was Willy to Deuce, and was looking good until Deuce copped a hard knock and had to retire.  Jacko replaced him and we lost nothing as Willy hurled his allotted amount, and left it to Troy to complete the shutout.  Our first run came as a result of a dropped catch and a wild throw, but the second was scored through good base running, both in the fifth dig.  Hits: One each to Fan Deyuu (Deuce), Jarrod Marsland, Troy Nicholson and Travis Joblin.

DIVISION FOUR lost to Goodwood, as you would in this grade with a guy throwing hand grenades.  This was a much better game by the boys, as their defensive work has really gone up a few notches.

DIVISION SIX -  An eye-catching game this one, of high quality and entertaining, with the eventual result always going to be in our favour.  We looked the goods with Behr on the mound plugging away manfully.  The hits in this 20-7 victory were Geyer 4, Cuz, Behr, Dorney 3,Knuckles, Marso, Teakle 2, Jobu, Nicko, Sully, Watto 1.

DIVISION SEVEN - Lost 6-15 to the Hawks in another good game with Derek Milne's triple being a standout.  They tried hard for their injured Coach, but he proves to be not a very good spectator.  Hits:  Derek Milne, Casey Moore 2, Nick McCormack, Mike Chemny, Tony Brownbill, Aldo McCormack 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE - The girls won convincingly against Port 13-2 with Louise Bartle leading the hitting with three (and also pitching relief), and Rachel Coutie, Kenzi StGeorge, Darna Veen (starting pitcher), and Alyssa Lasscock all hitting two.  Creeping up the ladder, and in good form, the sky is the limit here.

UNDER 17's  -  Under the guidance of Gary Owens, this team is improving weekly, and were too good for their Goodwood opposition, winning 7-3.   Harrison Kiss and Aldo McCormack each had two hits, and Cody Tape, Blake O'Brien, Johnny Von Senden, Alex Black and Barry Eime 1.  Owen Williams was the starter.

UNDER 13's  - Only two hits recorded in this 1-6 loss to the Cardinals, one to Ben and the other to Kolya.  Toby Kortekaas pitched but they couldn't pull it off.

The UNDER 11's played Glenelg and had a loss 5-9.  The kids are playing good fun baseball, as evidenced by their runs for and against for the year to date - they are even.  In this game, Oliver struck out three and had a hit, and Chase struck one out.

UNDER 9's had a ripper of a game against Southern Districts with seventy eight runs recorded.  But - remember - no scoring in this grade.

DIVISION ONE vs Adelaide at Don Klaebe Field 17.11.19

Lost 1-6

We welcomed Deyuu Fan (Deuce) and Weihao Wang (Willy) to the Club from China via Adelaide Giants and hope they have an enjoyable time with us for the next month, whilst staying with Pattie and Lawrie.

After giving up ten runs (all unearned) to Northern Districts in the double-header last weekend, we were really looking forward to a far better performance this time round.  But what we got was more of the same, some good - some bad.  The good was Rhett Feser who pitched the maximum allowed and came out in the seventh at 1-3, and the bad was a mixed bag of defence and all round sloppiness.  We left far too many on bases having worked hard to get runners out there and our stealing costs us week after week.  So look out Goodwood next week.  Hits :  Gary Owens, Wade Moore 2, Todd Dunstall, Troy Nicholson, Rhys Owen, Brayden Marchioro 1.

DIVISION TWO vs Adelaide at Don Klaebe Field 17.11.19

Lost 3-7

Nathan Nicholson was going great guns from the centre, but it took the bats some time to get going, and it was not until late in the game that we started to put a few together and score some runs.  We again had our share of angst, and had an ejection as a result, and had to use three pitchers in the end, namely Nathan, Ethan Marchioro and Rhys Owen.  Hits :  Todd Dunstan, Tom Dineen 2, Nathan Nicholson, Deyuu Fan, Jarrod Marsland, Weihao Wang, Rhys Owen 1.  This team has lots of talent, just waiting for them to turn it on.

DIVISION FOUR went down to the Bay and went down to the Bay.

DIVISION SIX traveled out to Kensington and came home with the two points after having a 10-4 win.  Sully was his masterful self on the mound going the distance with everybody getting in on the act with the bats.  Good to get back into the winners circle after a couple of losses.  Hits : Geyer 2, and one each to Rev, Teakle, Couz, Behr, Scotty, Cam, Flash and Dornie.

DIVISION SEVEN played the early game at Kensington and had the misfortune to get knocked off in the last by one run 9-10.  Casey Moore got the nod as MVP with his pitching performance and three hits.  The boys were going for two in a row - but not to be.  Bad luck. The other hits were Watto 3, and one each to Brownbill, Lodge (who did his ankle), Flash, Milne, Chemny, Craig Mort and a nice double to Nick McCormack.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

Back on the winner's list after a hectic come from behind win over GGCD 9-8.  They certainly gave us some anxious moments during the game, but when the whips were cracking, they really brought their intensity into play, and played a fantastic last dig, with Megan's bright yellow boots flashing to the plate in the gathering gloom to seal the deal.  Darna Veen scampered around the diamond for an in the park home run and pitched the game out - a great showing.  Hits :  Alyssa Lasscock 2, Darna Veen, Carly Moore, Kenzi St.George 1.

UNDER 17's had a bye.

UNDER 13's had a good win over GGCD for coaches Carly and Jack and all the mums and dads 15-8.  Toby Kortekaas was the winning pitcher, and if I can read Renae's writing, I think he had two triples and a single, Ben Bynoe had a single, Jack Stanmeyne had five singles, Beau Brownbill had four and Vincent Zollo had one.  Poor Indie Ohazyfedinov didn't get a hit but played well, as did the rest of them.  Well done.

UNDER 11's went to Southern Districts and haven't been seen since.  I heard that they lost narrowly, but the carrier pigeon has not got back to town yet so no details.

UNDER 9's had a bye and no doubt spent the weekend working on their skills.

Pretty awful weekend for our senior teams with the one win coming via the Div Seven boys, who clocked up their first win for the season.  Div One lost both games of their double header to Northern Districts and the Div Two boys went down as well.  Div Four lost as did Div Six.  In the juniors, U17's had a narrow loss and U13 had a lean day, but the best news of the weekend was the DIV SEVEN and U9's, who flew the flag for the Senators.  The Women's team also could not get over the line.

DIVISION ONE at Home v Northern Districts

Game One - Lost 1-2

Rhett Feser pitched really well for the team and went the whole game, but the batters didn't get their act together until late in proceedings when Troy and Tom strung a couple of hits together for our only score.  Hits : Rhys Owen 2, Ethan Marchioro, Gary Owens, Troy Nicholson, Tom Dineen, Nathan Nicholson 1.

Game Two - Lost 6-8

Game went right down to the wire, with Gary hurling them down in fine fashion and the batters getting in some fine hits.  Gary's in the park Home Run was a standout, and Ethan's fine hitting also contributed.  We got in front mid-game, but let the Reds off the hook when Gary had to go back to centre field for a rest.  Hits : Ethan Marchioro 3, Gary Owens 2, Todd Dunstall, Troy Nicholson, Rhys Owen, Tom Dineen 1.

DIVISION TWO at Home v Northern Districts

Lost 8-9

What a frustrating game - both to watch and to play. We batted through the line-up in the first to score four, but the opposition came alive with five in the third.  Our boys just could not pick up the pace of their pitcher, and it was run for run until the last, when we fell agonisingly short.  Vic, Ethan and Rhys shared the pitching.

DIV FOUR had a dog of a day, scoring one run to plenty.

DIV SIX came up against a strong Sturt side and lost 7-14.  A pretty good standard of baseball was on display, and it was no disgrace to go down.  Scotty Currie and Behr took on the pitching duties and the hits were : Behrendt 4, Couzner, Reval 2, McCormack, Britcher, Geyer, Watson, Stradling, Currie 1.

DIV SEVEN

Won 7-6

Terrific game and great outcome.  First win for the season, on the back of a fine performance by the pitcher Casey Moore, who went the distance and threw only one walk all day.  Derek Moore set the tone in the outfield by taking a blinder, and got into the act by getting a hit, along with Craig Reval, Craig Mortimore, Keith Mortimore (and a steal), Mike Chemny, Nick McCormack and James Stradling one each.

WOMEN'S League at Home to Glenelg

Lost 0-12

The Bays came to play and knocked in the maximum five in the first while we were fumbling around, putting down four chances.  We picked up after that but had trouble getting girls around the bases.  Hits : Carly Moore, Louise Bartle and Million Baheta 1, whilst Darna Veen and Louise Bartle pitched.

UNDER 17's

Spent the day at University with only eight players and unfortunately went down 9-11, trying hard all day.  Johnny Von Senden pitched, and Harrison Kiss had a good day with the bat, notching up three hits, Cody Tape had two, and Johnny Van Senden, Aldo McCormack and Bailey Gibbs had one each.

UNDER 13's had a battle on their hands with the Reds having a fine hurler, and had to wait for him to have a rest before launching into the game.  The lost 18-6, but they hit well, With Toby Kortekaas, Ben Bynoe and Vincent Zollo each having three, and Kolya Schmaker, Katya Schmaker and Jacob Atkinson one apiece.

And now to the mighty UNDER 11's, who had a draw against Golden Grove 7-7.  They were looking at their second win in a row, and very nearly got there.  On the mound was Oliver who struck three out and one unassisted out, Matthew also got three outs and Noah got two.  The stars with the bats were Matthew, Remi, Oliver, Jacob, Chase and Archie.

PEEWEES had a fun game and finished in front of Glenelg 27-20.  All eight players got hits  -  Tucker, Kylah, Lily, Poppy, Sienna, Ella, James and Royce.
