DIVISION ONE

Twilight Home at Don Klaebe Field v Port Adelaide 12.01.21

WON 9-7

The game was a real fast starter with the Maggy boys hitting two doubles to shoot out to a two nil lead, but the best was yet to come with us posting five in the first on the back of Wade and Troy both hitting and scoring on Cesar's hit, and then Abby and Muggsy both contributed, as did Ethan, and we even scored another on a little bleeder. They were forced to change their pitcher in the second after we got another couple on an Abby double and Muggsy, well, he was just squirrelling away. There was a slowdown in scoring for a couple of digs, until Port got four in a flurry, and a home run evened the scores. But we managed to score on a Port error and got one more on a Muggleton hit. Nice win. Hits: Wade Moore, Ryan Muggleton 3, Troy Nicholson, Daniel Chapman, Craig Abbott 2, Cesar Perez, Ethan Marchioro, Nathan Nicholson 1. Pitcher of note - Joel Chapman.

DIVISION ONE

Away v Nth Districts 17.01.21

WON 14-0 We went up North with a seriously depleted squad because of a happy event that included a fair proportion of our playing personnel. But the courage of the individuals who flew the Senators' colours could not be doubted as we powered on to an impressive win, in which there were many highlights. Just off the top, how about the Coach's performance - forced to play first base because of the aforementioned shortages, he started off with a double, then really had his moment in the sun when he launched one for a Grand Slam Home Run in the third. Got a single later but pulled out of his quest for the cycle, citing a sore leg. Cesar got into the act with his own homer, and Ethan was denied by the last half meter of the fence. Abby is in rare form at the moment, hitting doubles and RBI's regularly, but I want to single out Troy's fine effort on the hill. Forced to be the starter, he allowed one hit for the afternoon, struck out eleven batters out of twenty-three, threw sixty-one strikes and thirty-nine balls and gave up one walk. His defence backed him with zero errors in what was a fantastic team game. Hits: Craig Abbott, Richard Olson (GSHR) 4, Callum Park, Cesar Perez (HR) 2, and one each to Wade Moore, Troy Nicholson, Ethan Marchioro, Nathan Nicholson, Brayden Marchioro and Jimmy Chu.

DIVISION TWO

Away v Nth Districts

WON 8-6 Nice to see the reappearance of Jackson Sowton after a break, and he settled in perfectly, showing a commanding performance at first base. Two Hit Tommy Dineen got the scoring started in the fourth with a two run RBI, and our base running appeared to befuddle the Red's boys. We got five in the sixth - could have been more - but Rhys's face plant when trying to run home from third set up a bit of a road block. However he recovered and went on to pitch the entire game in a seriously good showing. Hits: Rhys Owen, Tom Dineen, Tyson Hancock 2, Jimmy Chu, Harrison Kiss, Jarrod Marsland, Wade Moore 1.

DIV FIVE

Couldn't come up with the win, in David Lodge's 600th game. What a fantastic Clubman. Will do anything asked of him and wanted to keep it all low key - and he managed it. Well done Dave, and of course, his family.

DIV SIX

Went down to the powerful, unbeaten Glenelg side 2-15. The Bays have their name on the Cup at this stage, but you never know, we aren't slouches either, and with luck and no injuries, we are still in it. Hits: Flash, Dorny 2, Rev, Teaks, Stinky, Azza, Behr 1.

DIV SEVEN

Had a nice win 13-11 but, once again had to withstand a bit of heartache towards the finish, when a good early lead was being whittled away. Casey was a hero on the mound and the hits were: Brad Atkinson, Shane Lavida 3, Derek Milne, Aaron Petros, Shane Lodge, Craig Mortimore 2, Casey Moore, Noel Watson 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE 15.01.21

What a wonderful thing to have the girls back on home turf for a twilight game. We didn't win against the top team, but the night was terrific, with atmosphere and fun. How good was it after the game, when both teams congregated in the clubrooms, had a drink and some meals, and forgot about the loss and had a good time. As it should be. Result 1-12 down. Hits: Carly Moore and Alyssa Lasscock one each. Darna and Carly were the pitchers.

DIVISION ONE

Twilight 6.01.21 away v Kensington

Lost 2-5

This encounter was closer than the scores indicate, with the game all tied up at two all in the fifth, when an outfield error let them in to score a couple. Earlier, Abby double scored us a run, and a Cesar bleeder and a Muggsie sac bunt put another on the board. A mention here about Joel's effort on the mound, going the distance and only giving up one earned run - terrific work. Cesar joined in with two from four, getting himself caught on the fence twice. Hits: Cesar Perez, Daniel Chapman, Craig Abbott 2.

DIVISION ONE

Away v Sturt 10.01.21

Lost 1-11 Will was the lucky man on the mound pitted against probably the strongest batting line-up in the League, a line-up of ABL heavy weights and long time big hitters. He got through the first two digs unscathed, going one, two, three but sheer weight of numbers proved against us and they powered away. A curious thing was that there was not a home run hit all day, but we contributed to our own demise with a very sloppy performance defensively. Hits: One each to Wade Moore, Daniel Chapman and Ethan Marchioro.

DIVISION TWO

Away v Sturt 10.10.21

Lost 1-6 Not enough oomph with the bats, with only Jimmy Chu and Harrison Kiss hitting once each and Todd Dunstall twice. Tyson didn't have such a good day pitching - remember he had been in good form before the Christmas break - so it was left to Rhys to take over and strut his stuff. Two pickoffs saw him going for man of the match status, but the damage had been done, and we limped to a defeat in the heat.

DIV FIVE

Almost got their elusive first win for the season, going down in unlucky fashion 5-9 to Henley & Grange. A home run at the death put paid to their aspirations.

DIV SIX

Defeated North 20-4 in a game that once again proved that you can't keep a man down forever. After copping a blast for his performance previously, the interstate recruit put in a scintillating display with three hits and a fine catch (I'm told). Anyway, enough about him. The hero of the day goes to Behr, who did the job all day on the hill, and also to the rest of his team mates, who all contributed to the win. Hits: Tyson Jarvis 4 (welcome back), Terry Fitzgerald 3, Tim Fawcett, Grant Behrendt, Cam Britcher, Nick McCormack, James Straddling 2, Steve Couzner, Craig Mortimore, Craig Reval 1.

DIV SEVEN

It seemed the Christmas/New Year hangover was still present, as we couldn't get going at all and gave up the maximum in the first, which proved to be the difference in the end result of 7-15. The boys picked up their game, but it was "too late she cried". Hits: Aaron Petros, Lawrie Sinclair, Casey Moore 2, Derek Milne, Shane Lodge, Craig Mortimore 1.

DIVISION ONE

Twilight Away v Adelaide 15.12.20 Lost 1-2

A very winnable game at the Adelaide Baseball Club's impressive new facility was lost when we recorded only two safe hits for the evening, both to the red-hot Wade Moore. The boys got bat on ball enough, but picked out their men monotonously. We went into the sixth at one each, and after Ethan walked, Wade hit and stole along with Ethan, and Troy was intentionally walked, we were in the perfect position with the bases all filled up, got a bit excited, but did not trouble the scorers. Pity. Joel went the distance in a fine performance from the hill, and Craig took four ripper catches at left field. One that got away.

Away v Goodwood 19.12.20 Game one of double header Lost 0-7 Will was on the mound and made a very good start, keeping their heavy bats under control for the first couple, but by weight of numbers, they started to get on top and popped a couple over to go to a lead, before DChap relieved and put the brakes on. Our batters weren't helping the situation either by not really contributing, and runs were not forthcoming. The difference in this game was purely the offence of the Indians, as there were no errors to add to the score line. Hits: Troy Nicholson, Craig Abbott, Brayden Marchioro 1.

Away v Goodwood 19.12.20 Game two of double header Lost 3-5 We were in with a real chance leading in the fifth 3-2, but couldn't go on with it. After we had tied it up in the third following a Wade double, an Ethan walk and a Troy RBI it was game on, and when Muggsy smacked one and scored two, it was looking the goods, but the home side steadied and put on three to win. Joel once again pitched his heart out in 5.1.digs, and the hits were: Wade Moore 2, Ethan Marchioro, Troy Nicholson, Ryan Muggleton, Daniel Chapman, Andrew Chapman, Todd Dunstall 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v Goodwood 19.12.20 WON 6-3 Two outstanding performances in this game - Tyson Hancock's complete game from the mound in which he didn't put a foot wrong, and Daniel Chapman's mastery of the bat with two, two run dingers to ice the game. Early we were the lucky recipients with runs coming from an error riddled couple of innings by the opponents, but all honours go to the aforementioned duo. Hits: Todd Dunstall, Daniel Chapman (2HR) 3, Ryan Muggleton 2, Richard Olson 1.

DIV FIVE

Played Golden Grove at Don Klaebe field but unfortunately didn't improve on their win/loss ratio.

DIV SIX

Played at home against Adelaide and ran out winners 5-4. With nice hitting from the King, Cuz, Sully and Cam and really good solid pitching by Marso, the game came down to the wire and it was left to Flash to run in the winner and walk off. The Victorian recruit blotted his copybook somewhat by striking out not once, not twice but three times. Sorry Fitzy.

DIV SEVEN

Also took on Adelaide at home and lost to a side above them on the ladder. But no big deal, the boys are having a great season and are giving it a good shake. Casey pitched all game, and the hits were: Casey Moore, Nick McCormack, Brad Atkinson 2, Derek Milne, Lawrie Sinclair, Shane Lodge, Tim Fawcett 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

Good to see the girls back in the winner's circle after a couple of weeks of uncharacteristic losses, with a one run win over Southern Districts 12-11. Dana threw well and was ably backed up by the batters, namely Sarah McMahon, Carly Moore and Kensi St.George with two each. Kensi told me she notched up a triple, so knowing Kensi, I had to get it confirmed, and blow me down, she did. Good on ya.

Once again, the Junior teams played all over the place this week, and on various days with mixed results.

MINOR LEAGUE (U11)

Only played the one game, a beauty against a higher ranked opponent and beat them 5-2 in a contest that saw really improving pitching from Archie, Remy and Chase, who took a blinder of a catch that will be remembered for a while. Catching duties are on the up as well, as Remy, Luke and Anton displayed, and the batters had a good day with Chase and Remy both hitting twice, and Anton, Felix, Luke, Hugo and Owen all chipping in for one each.

LITTLE LEAGUE (U13)

The Senators team took on Henley & Grange on Friday night and began like a house on fire, streaking into a good lead with Vince and Dakota getting the job done with the bats. Ollie was looking good on the mound, but unfortunately our lead was whittled away and we lost 11-12.

The Woodville team played at home on Sunday against Golden Grove and were defeated 7-15 in a really good encounter, in which Tucker, Noah and Indie all played well.

JUNIOR LEAGUE (U15)

Played two games for the week, both away and were beaten by Port on Wednesday evening 6-13, and lost to top team East Torrens on Sunday.
