DIVISION ONE

Twilight v Sth District 18.01.22

WON 6-2

Really needed this win to end the losing streak that began after the Christmas break, where we lost a few games that we surely should have won, which makes it all that much harder to climb into that top six. So Tolsy took to the mound and gave us the platform for the win by going the distance in a brilliant display giving up just the one hit and striking out ten of their batters and only allowing a couple of walks. We started with a Todd double and two walks and were poised to score but left them out there, and had to wait until the fifth to get on the board - meanwhile the Hawks had two their way. Troy W got us mobile with a sac fly to score a run and then with two out and runners on, Joel, with ice in his veins, popped one down the middle to bring in some more. Rackers put the seal on it in the last when he launched a huge two run bomb. We saw a great catch at third and put-out at first by Weiny - worth the price of admission. Hits: Cesar Perez 2. Wade Moore, Todd Dunstall, Luke Rackebrandt (HR), Tom Dineen, Joel Chapman 1.

DIVISION ONE

v GGCD at Don Klaebe Field

22 01.22 Game Abandoned Heavy, persistent rain put the dampeners on our hopes of building on Tuesday's win. No play.

DIVISION TWO

v GGCD at Don Klaebe Field

22.01.22 Game abandoned Ditto.

DIVISION THREE

v GGCD at Don Klaebe Field

22.01.22

WON 4-2 Petty doubled to enable Jimmy to start us up and then we had to come off for a brief rain delay. On resumption we left a couple on base, but then scored three in the third after Lodgy's RBI and because of the Skipper's extraordinary base running expertise. Carly smacked a terrific triple but, while standing proudly on third base, the heavens opened and the game was cut short. Hits: Kieren Pett 2, Richard Olsen, David Lodge, Carly Moore 1. Joe Chapman pitched.

DIV SIX and DIV SEVEN both made the trip out to the North-east suburbs not knowing if the conditions would enable them to play, but play they did, with mixed results, the Sixers losing 3-10, and the Seven's having a resounding triumph 16-1 In the Sixers game, Aldo McCormack had two hits, and Nick McCormack, Leigh Pedder, Owen Williams two, Nate Oliver and Flash had one each. In the Seven's game Sully did a top job from the mound and helped himself to a hit as well, and Tyson Jarvis excelled with two doubles and two triples, while King K had three hits, Behr, Cuz, Cam two, and Nick, Nate, and Rev chimed in with one each.

DIV EIGHT

The boys shot themselves in their collective feet when they allowed five runs in the first. There it is again - one poor inning and the game is cooked. They hung in there and looked a silly chance to pinch the win when they came back from 2-9 down to the final 5-9 result. HITS: Brad Atkinson 2, Derek Milne, Shane Nicholson, Lawrie Sinclair, Greg Oxenham 1.

JUNIORS are raring to go and the all start again next week.

DIVISION ONE

Twilight 11.01.22 v Glenelg

Lost 1-15

Boy oh boy - nobody saw that coming! We went down to the Bay to play against the second bottom team, and got a spanking. We managed three hits for the day, one of them being a huge homer by Cesar, but our bats never showed any authority for the entire evening and we came up way short. Todd and Wayne gave us a glimmer of hope in the third when they got on base - but no runs - and this was quickly snuffed out when a Bay guy hit a Grand Slam home run. But the worst was yet to come, as, in the next, the Tigers raced away to a ten run inning, an inning in which we tried four pitchers which was in stark contrast to their man who was able to throw a minimum of pitches to us. All in all, a pretty disastrous result given the state of the ladder. Hits: Todd Dunstall, Wade Moore, Cezar Perez (HR) 1.

DIVISION ONE

Home at Don Klaebe Field v Sturt 15.01.22

Lost 5-6 Sturt got away to a flying start, puting four on the board in the first, but Rackers closed the gap somewhat in the fourth by planting one over the fence after Troy N doubled. Finners was doing a fine job on the mound at this stage and came out of the game having pitched five innings to give way for Joel who pitched the remainder for no runs. We pegged another back in the seventh when Wade and Joel hit and Troy knocked in the run and this set us up for the bottom of the ninth - needing three to even it up or four to win. Wade gave us two of these with his two run homer and things were getting tight and when Cesar doubled and they intentionally walked Troy W - with two outs - it was crunch time. Abby was oh so close to being the hero when his smash to right field was caught by the fielder down by his boot laces. What a pity, as the boys did their darndest to erase the feeling of last Tuesday. Hits: Wade Moore (HR)3, Todd Dunstall, Troy Nicholson 2, Cesar Perez, Troy Weinert, Luke Rackebrandt (HR), Joel Chapman 1.

DIVISION TWO

Home at Don Klaebe Field v Sturt

Lost 1-4 Tyson took to the mound and was looking solid in his five digs, and his job was made easier by the defence, which was also efficient. However hits were few and far between and we didn't really trouble the scorers all that often. Hits: Ryan Muggleton, Craig Abbott, Tom Dineen 1.

DIVISION THREE

Home at Don Klaebe Field v Sturt

WON 13-3 Poor old Joe, they hit two homers off him in the first to set him back on his heels. But to his credit he came back with a vengeance and conceded just one more run for the game, in a powerful display. We had erased those two runs by the second when the Skipper hit the fence on the full, but wasn't content with the double and was out trying to pinch third. The best was yet to come though, as we piled on seven in the next when Dave doubled to score Brayden, Carley's triple got her an RBI, Marso got into the act with an RBI and the Skip finally put one over for a couple. Doggy's two RBI's rounded out the game in the last to record a comprehensive win. Hits: Richard Olson (HR) 3, Jimmy Chu, Brayden Marchioro, David Lodge, Jarrod Marsland, Josh Boden 1.

DIVISION SIX lost to Sturt 6-11 with Leigh Pedder having two hits, and Flash, Shane Lavida, Nick McCormack and Owen Williams having one each.

DIVISION SEVEN also lost to Sturt 6-9 in this top of the table clash. Shades of yesteryear from Behr on the mound, who put in a good one. Hits: Flash, Sully 3, Rev, Nicko 2, Behr, Cuz, Cam 1.

DIVISION EIGHT

Home v Sturt

Lost 6-9 Both sides got one run each in the first, but then we had our inevitable poor innings in the second, giving up seven. We fought back brilliantly however to almost pinch it at the death. Hits: Derek Milne, Laurie Sinclair 2, Shane Nicholson, Brad Atkinson, Greg Oxenham 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE Game called off because of Covid cases.

Juniors resume at the end of the month.

DIVISION ONE

Twilight v Adelaide 4.01.22 at Don Klaebe Field

Lost 3-4

Our four game winning streak came to an end in a game that we thought was gettable after defeating the same opponent 14-5 in the last game before Christmas. Joel was a bit stiff as most of the Angel's runs were not of his doing, just a couple of lapses in the defence. We were also unlucky as we didn't get full benefit from Troy Weinert's fantastic at bats having no runners on at the time - so just the two solo runs. After Troy's first dinger, DChap doubled and that was promising but it didn't go any further and we failed to build on his second as well. Josh made a welcome return to the mound after battling injury for most of the season and for the last three digs closed them down with seven strikeouts for one hit. Sitting seventh after this game - really eyeing off those finals spots. Hits: Wade Moore, Troy Weinert (2HR), Daniel Chapman 2, Ethan Marchioro 1.

DIVISION ONE

Away v West Torrens 8.01.22

Lost 4-9 The Eagles came out with all guns blazing and after a couple of doubles, had two on the board in their first, and made it three zip after the third. However Troy Weinert got busy in the box and smashed a two run homer to keep us in business and took a break from the mound and let the other Troy (Nicholson) have a go, who promptly put one over himself behind Jesse Toepfer's double. But such is the depth of the West Torrens club, that even with the Covid bug depleting numbers and the Giants requiring some of their players in Melbourne, they were able to keep scoring runs, and even Tolsy wasn't able to put the brakes on. We were missing a few ourselves due to the obvious reason, but still managed to put on a couple in the eighth to keep it interesting. I guess that this will be par for the course in the foreseeable future Covid wise. Hits: Todd Dunstall, Wade Moore, Troy Nicholson (HR), Troy Weinert (HR), Daniel Chapman, Jesse Toepher 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v West Torrens 8.01.22

WON 12-4 This was a complete day team effort with Tyson going well on the hill and Finners completing the good work. The only blemish for the day was an uncharacteristic couple of errors in the third which gifted them a couple of easy runs, but apart from that, our bats put on a great performance. Muggsy knocked in a couple early, Brayden doubled and got home, Rhys's double scored Muggsy and Tom couldn't put a foot wrong with multiple RBI's. Hits: Tom Dineen 4, Ryan Muggleton, Rhys Owen 3, Andrew Chapman, Brayden Marchioro 1. It used to be "Two hit Tommy" - guess we have to upgrade this now.

DIVISION THREE

Away v West Torrens 8.01.22

WON 6-5 We were cruising along with a handy three run lead going into the bottom of the last, and got a shock when the home team got two and things all of a sudden got very tight, so much so that after Joe had reached his pitch limit, the Skipper had to take over and put the last batter to bed. Earlier Jimmy Chu and Lodgy combined to put us in front, and Joe's double and Richard's double got us further away, so Richard chose to sneakily steal third and got home on a passed ball. Doggie's RBI helped also, but on the debit side, twice we left bases loaded out there. Hits: Shane Brown 3, Richard Olson, David Lodge, Joe Chapman 1.

DIVISION SIX

Played bottom placed West Torrens who had come prepared with their team and beat us to the tune of a 6-17 defeat. Good to see Shane Lavida on deck again and he had two hits on his return, and there was a string of single hitters, namely Aldo McCormack, Nat Oliver, Nick McCormack, Noel Watson, Tim Fawcett and the Birthday Boy Owen Williams.

DIVISION SEVEN

Lost to the Angels 5-13 with a Covid depleted side. No excuse really, as all teams have the same problem these days. Guess we just suck it up, no complaining, and just get on with it. Hits: Cuz, Cam, Sully 2, King K, Rev 1.

DIVISION EIGHT

Are starting a bit of a slide in the wrong direction ladder-wise, and the trend needs addressing. Lost to Gawler 5-8, but all is not lost as Shane Nicholson is hitting a purple patch (batting 1000 on Saturday), Brad is pitching better than ever, and we have a host of other players just straining to get to the pointy end of the season. Hits: Shane Nicholson, Brad Atkinson 2, Derek Milne, Greg Oxenham, Mike Chemny 1.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE v Sth Districts 9.01.22

Lost 5-9 Good game this, completely dominated by the long awaited return of Carly Moore after a prolonged stint after breaking her thumb catching Div Two. Her in the park Home Run was a highlight, as was her base running to score another. But, enough about Carly, she had support with the battery of Darna to Sarah but the batters failed to show for most of the afternoon, only recording two hits - one to Carly and the other to Alyssa Lasscock. Lucky enough to have a return match against the same team next week to make amends.

JUNIORS resume at the end of the month.
