DIVISION ONE Twilight away v Glenelg Tue 30.01.24

Lost 1-2

You always come away from the Bay with a bitter taste in your mouth after a poor loss.  The game from our point of view never reached a standard that we are used to, and certainly the batting was on the nose until it miraculously came to life in the seventh (last) dig when we were chasing two.  Troy, Finners and Wade all got on base and when Joel joined them we got one, but a double play put paid to our chances.  Hits  :  Mitch Fienemann 2, Troy Nicholson, Wade Moore, Joel Chapman 1.

DIVISION ONE  At Don Klaebe Field v Gawler Sat 3.02.24

WON 11-4

They gave us a slight wake-up call in the first with a three run dinger, but that proved to be all they would get until a consolation run in the last.  AJ tightened up and gave them nothing from then on, and our batters took control.  In the third Cesar doubled as did Drew as did Finners and Troy's single made it three, and almost ditto in the fifth after a Cesar hit and a Troy sac-fly and a great line drive down the third base line by Joel, and we found ourselves with another three.  But we scored another five in the eighth, highlights being Drew's two run homer and Joel cheekily stealing home, along with another Cezar RBI.  Troy took over from AJ after six and Cezar brought it home for the last out.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez 3, Drew Janssen (HR) 2, Wade Moore, Mitch Fienemann, Troy Nicholson, Joel Chapman 1.

DIVISION TWO At Don Klaebe Field v Gawler Sat 3.02.24

WON 10-3

Very solid win, with Declan pitching the first couple and Ray (our new acquisition)  taking over for the next three.  Muggsy, Dave Lodge and Pappsy knocked up getting RBI's, and Ollie and Harry were not to be denied also.  A small criticism would br the number of runners left on base throughout the game.  Hits  :  Joe Papps 2, Ryan Muggleton, David Lodge, Ollie Hayes, Harrison Kiss 1.

DIVISION THREE At Don Klaebe Field v Gawler Sat 3.02.24

WON 14-5

We started raggedly in the field, but managed to get on top of things after Tyson got stuck into the defence.   The hitting proved to be outstanding with five runs in the second and a whopping nine in the fifth.  Luke Taylor got us going, and we really powered on the runs - with Harry's two run double a standout, Ray's RBI and scoring on Amara's hit, Wally's double and Jimmy Chu, Kossi and Harry again all contributing.  Tyson was well in control throughout.  Hits  :  Damian Wall, Harrison Kiss, Kosuke Ikeda 2, Luke Taylor, Amara Quinn, James Chu, Ray Han 1.

DIVISION SIX Away v Goodwood

WON 14-5

The battery of Andrew Eime to Phil Zschorn set up the win with the rest of the team all putting in.  Hits  :  Shane Brown 3, Phil Zchorn, Jake Wilson, Sean Wallis, Owen Williams 1.

DIVISION SEVEN Blue At home v Goodwood     WON 5-2

Nice to notch up a win after being down for a while.  The defence really stood up and backed Casey in his all game performance and Behr went three from three, a highlight which was matched by the Pope's diving catch at left field.  The guys were going just as strong at the end as they were at the start.  Hits  :  Behr 3, Nicko, Casey 2, Rev, Cam, Morty 1.

DIVISION SEVEN Red Away at the Port

WON 10-0

David Ding pitched the boys to a terrific win with the hits being  :  Mike Chemny 3, Shane Nicholson 2, Kim Hooney 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE Away at Southern Districts Sun 4.02.24     Lost 3-11

Long way to go to come away with a disappointing loss. We are suffering a lack of personell at the present time due to some unfortunate circumstances, and results are not coming easily.  Thanks to the ones that plugged the gaps.  Hits  :  Jemila Dadd, Sarah McMahon, Ella Forrester 1.

DIVISION TWO Away at Kensington Fri 2.02.24   went across town and recorded a loss.

JUNIORS

U17 Senior League

Under 17s strengthened their grip on the top spot of the ladder with a strong win over Adelaide at home.

Diesel Fallon started for an innings and held them scoreless until he handed the reigns over to Oliver Hayes who kept their bats in check for the rest of the game.

Our bats proved strong through the whole game and our aggression on the base paths showed through Ryan who at one point managed to move from first to home on a single steal.

Congratulations to Benji Hayes who played his first game for the under 17s side.

U15 Junior League Woodville Def H&G 4-3

In a tight contest our team prevailed and now have a 3pt advantage in 3rd place from 4th with 3 rounds to go.  Again some outstanding pitching by starter Alice Brown with 6 strikeouts and reliever Seb Bravo with 3 strikeouts paved the way and backed up by some good team hitting saw us hold them out later in the game.

Hits:

Luke Fawcett 2, Chace Wallis 2, Will Stock 2, Remy Brooks 1, Seb Bravo 1, Hugo Marshall 1

U14 Intermediate League

The best game this team has put together all season, going down 16-9 to Goodwood at Goodwood. They made no errors in the field and out-hit their opponents 6 to 5 but the inexperience of the pitchers, and the aggressive base-running of Goodwood allowed Goodwood to convert on-base opportunities into runs.

Luke caught superbly in the heat, managing to catch 2 runners stealing to 3rd and Felix was solid at 1st.

Hits: Luke 2, Felix 2, Xavier, Myles.

Pitching: Xavier 1 strikeout.

U13 Little League  played Henley & Grange and was a little slow getting the bats going in the early innings. With H&G's opening pitcher doing a great job at shutting us down. It was a drawn game, 2-2, going into the top of the sixth. However, the team showed they had kept their fighting spirit in the scorching weather and scored 4 more runs. Flexi did a great job closing out the last innings, and the team only let  H&G score one more to win the game 6 - 3.

Pitching:

Archie 3 innings, 7 strikeouts, 0 runs, 44 pitches with 31 strikes

Felix 3 innings, 9 strikeouts, 3 runs, 60 pitches with 30 strikes.

Batting:

Riley 2 hits (1 double, 1 triple), 1 run

Archie 2 hits, 2 runs

Felix 1 double, 1 run

Kylah 1 hit, 1 run

Myles 1 hit

Bodi 1 run

U 11 Minor League U11

Lost 9-1 to Northern Districts at home. A tighter game than the scoreline suggested, with the batters more aggressive and our pitchers toiling hard for a lot of strikeouts.

Hits: Chris 2, Kasper

Pitching strikeouts: Hugo 3, Chris 3, Laura 3

GODANATS!!

DIVISION ONE  Twilight Tue 23.01.24 at Don Klaebe Field v Sth Dist

WON 6-0

We very nearly let them score in the first due to a throwing error, but got out of jail and left them with three on base, and then the tone was set when Cesar popped the first of his two homers over in his first two at bats, one in the first and then again in the third.  All the while Drew was keeping them to duck eggs and the defence was alive, giving them no scoring chances.  A two RBI double off Joel's bat did some damage, a couple of walks and some cheeky steals and a Drew sac fly gave us the advantage, and Troy stepped in and shut them down.  Nice win, as they were snapping at our heels on the ladder before the game.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez (2HR) 2, Mitch Fienemann, Joel Chapman, Nathan Nicholson 1.

DIVISION ONE at Don Klaebe Field Sat 27.01.24 v GGCD

WON 2-1

They came to play as if they had nothing to lose, coming as they were from second last on the ladder, and they gave us a great game.  We drew first blood with a Drew double being converted into our first run by Kuhna, they responded in the second, and from then on it was two pitchers on top.  In our case, it was AJ who was having a good game, and we didn't get a break until their starter sat down and we got a few on base.  A hit by pitched ball came in handy as it walked in the run that made all the difference, but after we had given ourselves a little scare with two errors in an inning - no run resulting however.  AJ pitched eight strong innings, and Troy did the mopping up.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen, Mitch Fienemann 2, Nick Kuhn, Wade Moore, Daniel Chapman 1.

DIVISION TWO at Don Klaebe Field Sat 27.01.24 v GGCD

WON 8-0

ChapmanD to ChapmanA, relieved after three by ChapmanJ.  It worked big time with their batters not getting a sniff all game.  We had some great contributors, Jose's triple pushing AChap's and Ollie's hits over the plate, DChap and Manny scoring after Ollie's second great at bat, Jose with another double in the same dig as Joel's double and a DChap RBI.  Then in the seventh, a vintage two run homer from AChap.  Nathan thought it was Xmas when he came on to close with no difficulties.  Hits  :  Jose Rameriz, Daniel Chapman, Armando Rameriz, Andrew Chapman (HR), Oliver Hayes, Joel Chapman 2, Ryan Muggleton, Breandan Taheny 1.

DIVISION THREE at Don Klaebe Field Sat 27.01.24 v GGCD

Lost 8-11

Tyson was on the mound for the first three and was in good form and left the game at 8-4 our way.  Their pitcher was having trouble finding his spots and walked in runs, thank goodness, because except for Aldo and Wally, no one was hitting.  We then ran into trouble ourselves, and a grand slam home run put paid to our chances. Hits  :  Aldo McCormack 2, Damian Wall 1.

DIVISION SIX had to go play against Southern Districts down south and they put up a creditable performance in going down 1-4 in what was a special day for some special people. It was the occasion of Doggy's (Shane Brown) 700th game for the Club, and he got to play with his two daughters - Molly and Alice. A great touch. Doggy turned back the clock with a great effort on the mound, followed by Andrew Eime who also pitched well.  The hits were  :  Tim Fawcett, Shane Brown, Brett Kelly 2, Michael Gomez, Andrew Eime, Joe Braithwaite, Molly Brown, Owen Williams 1.

DIVISION SEVEN - Red

Had a bye

DIVISION SEVEN - Blue

Lost to Port 6-8

Disappointing lost, having fought back from a slow start to go into the last at five all.  Defensive and offensive errors were the culprits, with no fault laid at the feet of the two pitchers - King and Casey.  Hits  : King, Casey, Morty 2, Flash, Nicko, Cam 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

Funnily enough, both teams had the long weekend off.  The Div One team had a bye, and the Div Two girls were given the holiday.

JUNIORS

LL Div 2

The Little League Team put their base running and hitting practice from last week in play against Southern Districts to win 15-0. Resulting in mercy at the top of the 4th innings.

Pitching: Archie pitched a shutout by pitching 4 innings, facing 12 batters.

Batting:

Ely Plaves 3 hits, 3 runs

Archie Wallis 3 hits and 2 runs

Myles Braithwaite 2 hits and 2 runs

Riley Sinclair 2 hits, 3 runs

Felix Oliver 1 hit, 1 run

Aiden Hussey 1 hit, 1 run

Francis Calo 1 run

Mochi Vuong 1 run

Olive O'Hazy-Zschorn 1 run

JL Div 1

An excellent effort from our JL team defeating West Torrens at home 15-0.  Some top pitching from Alice Brown with 8 strikeouts and Benji Hayes in relief with 3 strikeouts in a combined no-hitter and some good catching from Will Stock.  Our bats ran fairly hot with 7/10 players getting safe hits and some good discipline at the plate with many drawing walks to get on base.

Hits:

Benji Hayes 2

Will Stock 2

Dakota Ding 1, Chace Wallis 1, Seb Bravo 1, Remy Brooks 1, Hugo Marshall 1,

Minor League Report

If ever there was a game where the scoreline didn’t truly reflect the game this was it.  11-0 loss to Southern Districts, though the team batted amazingly well and put the ball into play as many times in 1 game as they have all season. The enticement of getting to throw water balloons at the coaches at training for each hit seems to have loosened the arms in the batting box.

Hugo, Kasper and Chris worked hard pitching and Hits to Laura 1, Chris 1 and Cooper 1.

Intermediate League

U14 Intermediate League match report:

An inexperienced side made the trip to league-leading  Golden Grove (8 wins, 1 loss) and put up a brave fight, going down 9-0 against much more experienced opposition. No shame in this defeat. While fielding, our pitchers battled hard through the typical and expected raucous behaviour of the opposition bench and their ‘gamesmanship’, with Felix staying focused and striking out 6 across 2 1/3 innings.

Kylah and Bodhi pitched well in relief, with Anton (until Felix busted his thumb) and Remy B doing fine jobs catching. The pitching was supported by some solid fielding by Xavier across the day at first and then third base. Arlo taking a great running catch at left field, in only his second game, lifted spirits late in the day.

Strikeouts: Felix 6, Bodhi 1.

Hits: none against a strong GGCD line-up.

Senior League had a Bye

GODANATS!!

DIVISION ONE

Twilight v West Torrens away Tue 16.01.24

Lost 0-3

The Eagles scored two in their first, and we were in with a chance when Finners doubled to put Wade on third, but we didn't capitalise on the opportunity.  Again he singled in the fourth and Cesar advanced to third, but we hit into a double play and that was the end of that chance.  We let them get another cheeky run in the sixth, and once again we got a man to third - this time Greg - but  didn't get him home. Disappointing.  Drew went the distance and the hits were : Mitch Fienemann 2, Cesar Perez 1.

DIVISION ONE

Away v H & Grange Sat 20.01.24

Lost 4-5

Bit of a bummer this, losing to the undefeated top team by the barest of margins.  There was some terrific, tight baseball played by both teams with no score until they got one in the fourth.  Wade's putout at third and Callum's bunt being standouts, and of course Drew's three run homer in the sixth, which saw us in the lead, as AJ showed his mettle stopping their scoring with bases loaded. The scores were equalled next dig with a two run effort from the Rams, and a two run dinger in the next put them in the lead. We managed one in return but that was our lot, and we went down fighting. AJ did nearly seven, and Cesar closed.  The hits were  :  Drew Janssen (HR) 2, Callum Park, Troy Nicholson, Mitch Fienemann, Wade Moore, Nick Kuhn 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v H & Grange Sat 20.01.24

Lost 8-17

We lost Declan Quinn our starting pitcher in the first with an arm problem, which put us behind the eight ball, and we let them in and gave up runs until we settled, and in a fine effort, young Diesel Fallon found himself on the mound as a kid and threw two scoreless innings.  Our bats came alive in the fourth with a Dave L walk, a Papps double, a Heeny walk and an AChap two RBI single, a Nathan N RBI, and we were motoring when Kuhna got into the act also.  The weight of runs were too much, but we didn't lie down, as Nathan and Manny scored us three in the last.  Hits  :  Nick Kuhn, Nathan Nicholson 2, Armando Rameriz, Joe Papps, Andrew Chapman 1.

DIVISION THREE

Away v H & Grange Sat 20.01.24

Lost 3-10

As in the Div Two game, we lost our starting pitcher early - this time after two innings.  Ollie Hayes and Kossie were forced to stand in, and the going was tough.  A bit of joy in the third when Aldo singled, as did Elvin and Kossie got one home.  In the last, Ollie showed his class by bringing in two.  There was never a lack of encouragement and enthusiastic talk all game.  Hits  :  Ollie Hayes (triple), Aldo McCormack, Elvin Avila, Josh Boden 2, Kosuke Ikeda, Damian Wall, Luke Taylor 1.

DIVISION SIX

Lost to West Torrens 2-4 in a game that went down to the wire, and they were a bit stiff to lose.  Gomez led the way with the bats with a great triple to kick-start the game, and Andrew Eime had two hits, and Doggy 1, Jake Wilson 1 and Brett Kelly 1.  Doggy was terrific all game from the middle.

DIVISION SEVEN (Blue)

V Adelaide Red (reigning Premiers)

Lost 1-6

Big improvement, especially in defence, backing up a superb seven innings pitching effort by Casey. Good to see Sully back and involved in a great double play with Cuz and Fitzy.  Loaded the bases a few times, but couldn't get 'em home.  Hits  :  Cuz 2, Nicko, Sully, King, Doggy, Cam, Behr, Casey 1.

DIVISION SEVEN (red)

V East Torrens.

Lost 3-14 with only Soung Kim and Steve Saunders recording hits.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field Sun 21.01.24 v Glenelg     Lost 5-14

We got two in the first on the back of Alyssa's giant hit to the centre field fence, another in the third off another Alyssa hit  and two more in the last, once again involving Alyssa.  So five RBI's in a "Man of the Match" performance.  We didn't play all that badly as the score would indicate, but were just a little bit off.  Good to see Darna fit and on the mound.  Hits  :  Alyssa Lasscock 2, Amara Quinn, Louise Pelle, Ella Forrester 1.

DIVISION TWO had a bye.

JUNIORS

SENIOR LEAGUE DIV 2

Won 9-2 against Port  after a slow start opened the flood gates to win comfortably. Diesel pitched very well and Oliver Van Dommelle lead the way with 3 hits. All players reaching base throughout the day and showing off speed by stealing bases at every opportunity.

JUNIOR LEAGUE DIV 1

Vs GGCD 3-0 loss.  Some great pitching and defence kept us in the game, unfortunately couldn't get anyone across the plate despite several close opportunities.

Hits: Chace Wallis x 1 (double) & Sebastian Bravo x1.

Top pitching again by Alice Brown with 6 strikeouts and Sebastian Bravo in relief with 1 strikeout.

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

The Intermediate League Team surprised Adelaide by showing them Woodville is a worthy competitor. With a remarkable improvement, only going down by 3 runs, compared to 17 runs the last time they played. There was a mix of all teams coming together to get things done. Thanks to all those who played multiple games.

Pitching:

Felix 2 2/3 innings; 4 strikeouts and 14 batters faced. Chace 2 1/3; 2 strikeouts and 11 batters faced.

Batting:

Chace 1 hit, 1 run

Archie 1 hit, 1 run

Kylah 1 run

LITTLE LEAGUE DIV 2

The Little League Team had a solid return for the second half of the season after the end-of-year break. There was plenty of action, with some well-executed outs at Home, thanks to Myles and Bodhi. We also welcomed a new player to the team, Arlo, who showed us that he'll be a valuable addition to the team after making an OB appearance at his first at-bat ever in a baseball game.

Pitching:

Kylah 2 innings, 2 strikeouts and 14 batters faced.Archie 2 innings, 4 strikeouts and 10 batters faced.

Batting:

Ely 3 hits, 1 run

Myles 1 hit, 1 run

Kylah 1 hit

Isaac 3 run

Francis 2 runs

Mochi 2 runs
