ROUND FOURTEEN

DIVISION ONE  Twilight Tue 23.01.24 at Don Klaebe Field v Sth Dist

WON 6-0

We very nearly let them score in the first due to a throwing error, but got out of jail and left them with three on base, and then the tone was set when Cesar popped the first of his two homers over in his first two at bats, one in the first and then again in the third.  All the while Drew was keeping them to duck eggs and the defence was alive, giving them no scoring chances.  A two RBI double off Joel's bat did some damage, a couple of walks and some cheeky steals and a Drew sac fly gave us the advantage, and Troy stepped in and shut them down.  Nice win, as they were snapping at our heels on the ladder before the game.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez (2HR) 2, Mitch Fienemann, Joel Chapman, Nathan Nicholson 1.

DIVISION ONE at Don Klaebe Field Sat 27.01.24 v GGCD

WON 2-1

They came to play as if they had nothing to lose, coming as they were from second last on the ladder, and they gave us a great game.  We drew first blood with a Drew double being converted into our first run by Kuhna, they responded in the second, and from then on it was two pitchers on top.  In our case, it was AJ who was having a good game, and we didn't get a break until their starter sat down and we got a few on base.  A hit by pitched ball came in handy as it walked in the run that made all the difference, but after we had given ourselves a little scare with two errors in an inning - no run resulting however.  AJ pitched eight strong innings, and Troy did the mopping up.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen, Mitch Fienemann 2, Nick Kuhn, Wade Moore, Daniel Chapman 1.

DIVISION TWO at Don Klaebe Field Sat 27.01.24 v GGCD

WON 8-0

ChapmanD to ChapmanA, relieved after three by ChapmanJ.  It worked big time with their batters not getting a sniff all game.  We had some great contributors, Jose's triple pushing AChap's and Ollie's hits over the plate, DChap and Manny scoring after Ollie's second great at bat, Jose with another double in the same dig as Joel's double and a DChap RBI.  Then in the seventh, a vintage two run homer from AChap.  Nathan thought it was Xmas when he came on to close with no difficulties.  Hits  :  Jose Rameriz, Daniel Chapman, Armando Rameriz, Andrew Chapman (HR), Oliver Hayes, Joel Chapman 2, Ryan Muggleton, Breandan Taheny 1.

DIVISION THREE at Don Klaebe Field Sat 27.01.24 v GGCD

Lost 8-11

Tyson was on the mound for the first three and was in good form and left the game at 8-4 our way.  Their pitcher was having trouble finding his spots and walked in runs, thank goodness, because except for Aldo and Wally, no one was hitting.  We then ran into trouble ourselves, and a grand slam home run put paid to our chances. Hits  :  Aldo McCormack 2, Damian Wall 1.

DIVISION SIX had to go play against Southern Districts down south and they put up a creditable performance in going down 1-4 in what was a special day for some special people. It was the occasion of Doggy's (Shane Brown) 700th game for the Club, and he got to play with his two daughters - Molly and Alice. A great touch. Doggy turned back the clock with a great effort on the mound, followed by Andrew Eime who also pitched well.  The hits were  :  Tim Fawcett, Shane Brown, Brett Kelly 2, Michael Gomez, Andrew Eime, Joe Braithwaite, Molly Brown, Owen Williams 1.

DIVISION SEVEN - Red

Had a bye

DIVISION SEVEN - Blue

Lost to Port 6-8

Disappointing lost, having fought back from a slow start to go into the last at five all.  Defensive and offensive errors were the culprits, with no fault laid at the feet of the two pitchers - King and Casey.  Hits  : King, Casey, Morty 2, Flash, Nicko, Cam 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

Funnily enough, both teams had the long weekend off.  The Div One team had a bye, and the Div Two girls were given the holiday.

JUNIORS

JL Div 1

An excellent effort from our JL team defeating West Torrens at home 15-0.  Some top pitching from Alice Brown with 8 strikeouts and Benji Hayes in relief with 3 strikeouts in a combined no-hitter and some good catching from Will Stock.  Our bats ran fairly hot with 7/10 players getting safe hits and some good discipline at the plate with many drawing walks to get on base.

Hits:

Benji Hayes 2

Will Stock 2

Dakota Ding 1, Chace Wallis 1, Seb Bravo 1, Remy Brooks 1, Hugo Marshall 1,

Minor League Report

If ever there was a game where the scoreline didn’t truly reflect the game this was it.  11-0 loss to Southern Districts, though the team batted amazingly well and put the ball into play as many times in 1 game as they have all season. The enticement of getting to throw water balloons at the coaches at training for each hit seems to have loosened the arms in the batting box.

Hugo, Kasper and Chris worked hard pitching and Hits to Laura 1, Chris 1 and Cooper 1.

Intermediate League

U14 Intermediate League match report:

An inexperienced side made the trip to league-leading  Golden Grove (8 wins, 1 loss) and put up a brave fight, going down 9-0 against much more experienced opposition. No shame in this defeat. While fielding, our pitchers battled hard through the typical and expected raucous behaviour of the opposition bench and their ‘gamesmanship’, with Felix staying focused and striking out 6 across 2 1/3 innings.

Kylah and Bodhi pitched well in relief, with Anton (until Felix busted his thumb) and Remy B doing fine jobs catching. The pitching was supported by some solid fielding by Xavier across the day at first and then third base. Arlo taking a great running catch at left field, in only his second game, lifted spirits late in the day.

Strikeouts: Felix 6, Bodhi 1.

Hits: none against a strong GGCD line-up.

Senior League had a Bye
