DIVISION ONE Game One - At Don Klaebe Field v Adelaide Sat 9.03.24
Lost 2-7
Due to the extreme heat the game was brought forward to an 11.00am start and reduced to seven innings or two hours. The Angels came to play and came out hitting, putting two on the board early but we replied immediately with one of our own when Drew's sac fly got Wade home, and so the score remained at 1- 2 for several innings. After a sensational outfield catch by Nick Kuhn - we all thought it was Gary out there - Joel put one through the third baseman's legs to score Cesar and it was tied away until the sixth. AJ had been producing, and came off due to the heat after 5 2/3 innings. We had two outs, but the Angels took advantage and, with the help of a few walks, put on five to seal the deal. Nathan mopped up at the end, but our bats couldn't bridge the gap. Hits : Drew Janssen, Joel Chapman 1.
DIVISION ONE Game Two - At Don Klaebe Field v Adelaide Sun 10.03.24
Lost 1-5
Another early start (10.00am) with seven innings the max. One in the first got them going, and it proved to be their only run 'til the seventh. Drew was in control, and we were looking scary in our first when Cesar doubled, they intentionally walked Drew and an error filled the bases, but no run as a double play killed our chances. We let their pitcher off lightly in the third when he sat down our three bats in five pitches, didn't even raise a sweat. Our solitary run came in the fifth courtesy of a Wade RBI, but, with two outs in the last, their batter belted a Grand Slam to take the victory. Because we finished in second place on the ladder, we have a second chance and live again to play away next weekend against H & Grange.
Our Division Two side who didn't play due to the heat, also play at the same venue against H & Grange.
Juniors (U17, U15, U13) had their weekend sidelined because of the heat, and will resume their finals' campaignes next weekend, as will the Ladies Division One.
