DIVISION ONE

Away v Sth District Sat Nov 4 2023

WIN 5-4 (in 13 innings)

What a game  -  what a win.  After a draw in eleven innings against one of last year's finalists, a one run loss to last year's premiers, another eleven innings draw opposed to last year's runner up, we had to battle through a thirteen innings game against another of the previous year's top sides. And it's only round four.  We were due for a victory, and it came after a fierce battle that was worthy of a finals match. Credit to both teams.  AJ started sensationally and didn't give them a sniff for the first five, combined with great defence, and after early hits for no runs, we passed the plate three times in the fifth with a Callum RBI, a fielders choice and a Cezar sac fly.  The lead was shortlived as the Hawks got a lucky hit in the next with two on board to square it up.  Drew  firstly and then TVS took over and there was no scoring in the seventh, eighth, ninth and then Cesar kept the tenth and eleventh quiet.  We were unlucky not to score in the eleventh, but next dig scored a run on Taheney's bunt, and then would you believe it, they equalled. Thirteenth, and a wild throw got us the run we needed to again go to the lead, and Troy put out their lights to get the win.  A nail biting trip down south, but certainly worth all the heartache at the end.   Hits  :  Callum Park 2, Drew Janssen, Cesar Perez, Joel Chapman, AJ 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v Sth District Sat Nov 4 2023

Lost 2-6

Nothing happened in the early going, with Declan going about his business, and we were guilty of leaving a few runners on base until the marathon fourth, when they got five runs by hitting, stealing and making the most of our errors.  We looked like making a comeback after Taheney was hit by a pitch and Kos, Armando, NN and DChap all got on base, but only one run was the outcome.  The boys got another in the last after Joel had put the quieteners on them, but that's not enough.  Hits  :  Nathan Nicholson 2, Armando Ramirez, Daniel Chapman, Ryan Muggleton 1.

DIVISION THREE

Away v Sth District Sat Nov 4 2023

Lost 2-8

Davy was doing his darndest from the hill, but we were giving them extra batters in every innings with errors, and by the fourth, we had dropped three sitters with the midday sun being a major factor.  However, all good with a 0-1 scoreline goung into the seventh, but with Davy having a rest, we sat back and watched as seven went on the board, whilst we managed two.  Hits  :  Elvin Avila 3, Aldo McCormack 2, James Chu 1.

DIVISION SIX

Had an ordinary game at home against Goodwood, going down 1-18.  All is not lost however, as there were a few good things happening I'm told.  Don't know what they are - I'll let you know - oh yeah - clean up the errors.  Hitting was a strong point  :  Flash, Gomez, Andrew, Phil, Jack, Kel  all one.

DIVISION SEVEN - Red

Played Sturt away and failed to come home with the bikkies, losing 3-12.  Kim Soung had two hits, Derek hit a triple and Aaron and Shane Nicholson each had a hit.  Love the way these guys go about it - it's all about fun.

DIVISION SEVEN - Blue

Walkoff!!  Superb 7-6 win after being two behind coming into the last.  King and Casey were dominant on the mound going four and two respectively, and  Cam had his eye in with three top hits, ably backed up by Nicko and Fitzy with a couple each, and Dorny, Cuz, Casey and Behr one apiece.  I thought the Dorney rundown was an absolute highlight - "I hate this Game."

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE     Had a bye

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Fri Nov 3 2023

Lost 3-15

Tough going against a group that seem to be playing a grade down. They scored in most innings and our girls struggled to keep their ends up.  However, Dakota, Christie and Indie kept plugging away, a credit to them,  Next week girls - we still have a good win/loss record to date.

JUNIORS

U17 v Port

WON 13-8

The Port team jumped us and scuttled away to a six run first dig, but we were equal to the task and replied with five of our own.  We then tightened up considerably, allowing only two more for the duration, while making scoring look easy.  Seb Bravo set the scene from the middle, with Alice closing them down  and the hitting was led by Tommy Jovanovic who had two, and Charlotte Paech, Will Stock, Dakota Ding, Indie O'Hazy-Zshorn, Oliver Van Dommele had one each.

U15 v H&Grange

WON 9-5

The Rams got all their five in the first and then that was all she wrote, as we shut them down and had a seven run inning on the run home.  Hits  :  Will and Anton had a hit each and Chace powered a nice double.

U14

What a huge improvement from this team - really took it up to Southern Districts down at West Beach on the main diamond narrowly losing 5-4.

U13

Excellent team effort against a very strong competitor where we came out as the winners at the end of the game 6-2 on the junior diamond.

U11

Played Port Adelaide on the main diamond at home and lost 10-0. Unfortunately, not our day.

Pee Wee

Played their first away game of the season v East Torrens. The team is having a ball - getting lots of hits and making some outs. All had fun - no scores recorded.

DIVISION ONE

at Don Klaebe Field v H & Grange Sat 28.10.23

DRAW 11-11 (in eleven innings)

Great entertainment and certainly not one for the faint hearted.  We drew on all our reserves of courage and showed good old fighting qualities to claw back not once but twice from the jaws of defeat to record a particularly fine draw against last year's runners-up.  AJ was up and H&G got off to a blinder with agressive batting,  Drew's double came to nothing, and we left a few out there but AJ gained control and he and TVS pitched five scoreless innings.  However  we were not putting much on the board until Cesar put one on the roof of the QEH to score three, while excelling in the field during his pitching stint with a great double play.  Troy came on and looked the goods but the Rams took the lead 4-7  until Taheny was brought into the game and got on base and was brought home by Kuhna to be followed by Drew's shot over the fence for two more to tie it up.  Agonisingly, we had four against us in the tenth, but once again we rallied and that man again - Taheny - got on base as did Kuhna, and Wade's three run homer tied it up again.  The eleventh - and Drew made it impossilbe for them to score and we weren't able to add to our total either.  The International Rules in the last two innings certainly upped the heart rate.  So, three games in, all against last year's finalists for a loss and two draws - who knows what the rest of the season will hold.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen (HR), Breandan Taheny 2, Wade Moore (HR), Cesar Perez (HR), Mitch Fienemann, Joel Chapman, Greg Bravo, Adensen Verastegui 1.

DIVISION TWO

at Don Klaebe Field v H&Grange Sat 28.10.23     Lost 7-11

Strangest beginning to a game with the away team finding eight runs and we got six of our own - all in the first which took the best part of an hour.  Thank goodness things quietened a touch and there was very little scoring from then on - they got three more and we managed one.  Hits  :  Armando Ramirez 2, Freddy Aguilar, David Lodge 1.

DIVISION THREE

at Don Klaebe Field v H&Grange Sat 28.10.23     Lost 7-8

Another nail-biter, going down to the wire.  We started poorly giving up six in the first two digs, but the wiley Lachie Burrows put the clamps on, and after Lodgy hit and we had a couple of batters hit by pitchers, we were in the game.  Needing two for the win in the last, and with bases loaded, we could manage only one.  Young Haysey pitched the last two in a creditable effort.  Hits  :  Lachie Burrows 3,  Aldo McCormack, Jimmy Chu, Elvin Avila, Josh Boden, David Lodge, Kosuke Ikeda 1.

DIVISION SIX

Took the trek out to Golden Grove and didn't have the same success as they had last week going down 4-13, with Shane Brown, Andrew Eime and Jack Wilson all recording hits.

DIVISION SEVEN (Red)

Played away against H&Grange, and although putting up a pretty good performance, finished  giong down 8-11.  Some good efforts all round, with the hitters being Matt Davey, Justin Randall (good pitching), Mike Chemny, Hoony Soung 2, Aaron Petros, Kim Soung, Shane Lodge, Greg Oxenham 1.  Timmy Russell - no hits - but RBI !

DIVISION SEVEN (Blue)

Home game against Port and accounted for them easily to finally kick-start their season with a 14-3 victory.  Got seven in the first and kept it going with runs in every innings.  Behr's pitching comeback after a year's injury layoff was terrific and he was well backed up by his defence and Casey.  Hits  :  Rev 2, Watto, Cuz, Dorny, Casey, Behr, Nate, Cam 1.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

v Glenelg at Don Klaebe Field Sun 29.10.23     WON 16-6 (Mercy)

No Carly, no Ash, no Ella, no Leah - no worries.  Absentees for various reasons caused us to start a bit short and had to endure an automatic out in our first, but when the rest of the troops arrived, we went on to automatic pilot and cruised to the win.  Amara had them in control, and Darna chipped in at the end to show our authority.  In the second, Louise, Smack and Indie all hit doubles to enhance the scoreboard. A bye next week.  Hits  :  Louise Pelle, Alyssa Lasscock 2, Sarah McMahon, Catie Berry (nice catch), Indie O’Hazy-Zschorn 1.

DIVISION TWO

v Goodwood at Don Klaebe Field Fri 27.10.23     WON 8-7

We had six after two but the Goody girls fought back with four, and it was a tight affair with us just pipping them and not needing to bat in the last.  Dakota pitched three, Christie one and Alice finished and also hit a double as well as Bridget.  Hits  :  Bridget O'Meara 2, Kym Wilson, Alice Brown, Kerryn Fry, Jemila Dadd 1.  Welcome Jemila.

JUNIORS

U17 had their first loss 3-9 at the hands of Sturt.

U15

Defeated West Torrens 10-0 in what turned out to be the Alice Brown Show.  Pitching a shutout with eleven strikeouts and going three from three will get you the votes every time.  Seb Bravo hit a home run, Archie, Dakota, Hugo and Luke all had one hit and Alice - three.

Under 14 lost to Goodwood 13-6

U13

Went to Port and came home with the chockies to the tune of an 18-3 victory with Archie hitting two in the park homeruns.

U11

Went all the way to Southern Districts and went down by the narrowist of margins 3-4.

Peewees had a great time and although there are no scores kept, they tell me they won.

GODANATS !!

DIVISION ONE

v West Torrens at Don Klaebe Field 21/10/23     Lost 2-3

Before the game there was a brief ceremony to retire the gurnsey number of long time record holder Keith Mortimore - who has notched up well over one thousand games in his illustrious career for the Woodville Club.  Carly Moore then threw the first ceremonial pitch to start the game, as she has just returned from Canada where she represented Australia in the World baseball games, as the first South Australian female to do so.  And proudly a Senator from the beginning.  So the Div One game began, and it was obvious from the start that this was not going to be a run fest, as first TVS and then AJ gave them nothing, and their counterpart the same until the Eagle boys started to make a few connections with the bat in the fourth to post three runs.  The recently returned Drew Janssen had tried real hard in the first only to get caught on the fence, and there were some glimmers of hope when both Mitch and Greg Bravo doubled in separate innings.  No more scores from the reigning premiers, because first Cesar and then Troy N were right on top and the eighth dig came around and, with a couple on base, Cesar’s hit up the middle scored us two.  That was all she wrote however, and we fell agonisingly short.  Really good game for our first Home game of the season, plenty more to come - including last year's runner up Henley & Grange at home next week.  Hits  :  Cesar Perez, Greg Bravo 2, Mitch Fienemann, Nathan Nicholson 1.

DIVISION TWO

v West Torrens at Don Klaebe Field 21/10/23     WON 12-11

Quietish start to the game with both sides putting on two in the first.  Declan on the mound is getting stronger each outing and kept their bats subdued till they knocked in three in the third.  Then we got going on the back of Freddy's hitting and the Ramirez boys kept the momentum on a high, so much so that Joey Papps put a two run dinger over the fence and we finished with seven for the innings.  The Eagle boys reacted and put on six of their own, but not to be outdone, when needing three for the walkoff, we did it  - again.  Hits  :  Ryan Muggleton 2, Armando Ramirez. Freddy Aguilar, Jose Ramirez, Breandan Taheny, Harrison Kiss, Joe Papps (HR) 1.

DIVISION THREE

v West Torrens at Don Klaebe Field 21/10/23     Draw 15-15

Poor start with unlikely starting pitcher Dave Lodge not getting one iota of help from his defence, and the youthful Eagles had five on the board  before we took a breath.  More errors in the second saw us seven down, but then the super reliable Lodgy got the ball rolling with a double and we started to get back into the game.  Kosie came onto the mound and things started to slow, and then Haysey doubled and Kosie did the same and all of a sudden we scored eight to finish with an unlikely draw.  Hits: Ollie Hayes, Elvin Avila 3, Kosuke Ikeda, Josh Boden, Aldo McCormack 2, Jimmy Chu, David Lodge 1

DIVISION SIX

Hail the heros.  This win, 4-3 against Gawler at West Beach, took a year and a half to come to fruition.  Fantastic effort from Doggie who went the distance with ten strikeouts, and surely three Brownlow votes.  Hits  :  Tim Fawcett, Shane Brown 2, Jake Wilson 1. No one else?

DIVISION SEVEN  -  Blue

Led early, got the stitch and coughed it up for the second week in a row.  Plenty of wins to come.

DIVISION SEVEN  -  Red

Didn't really set the world on fire going down 7-17 to Golden Grove.  Leaked four in the first only to claw back three, but let them get a further seven in the next.  Didn't live up to the promise they showed last week.  Dinger and Tony shared the pitching and the hits were Shane Nicholson 3, Hoony Soung 2, Aaron Petros, Derek Milne, Mike Chemny 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

v  STURT at Don Klaebe Field 22/10/23

Lost 6-9

The girls had their colours lowered by a very good Sturt team who were coming off a huge win against Glenelg last week.  Lots of upside here though, with good performances from a number of ladies, including another debutante in Ella Forrester and junior Indie Ohazy-Zschorn.  Ash got us moving early and Ella got her first Senator hit, but a confused play at home plate scored a couple for the other mob.  A definite highlight - Amara on the mound in trouble with none out and bases loaded, but showing a lot of aplomb, got out of jail with three good outs and no run.  We were down seven in the last, but we really got them worried by getting four, and we quietened them down for a while.  Get 'em next time.  Hits  :  Amara Quinn 3, Ash George, Louise Pelle, Carly Moore 2, Alyssa Lasscock, Ella Forrester, Darna Boers-Veen, Indie Ohazy-Zschorn 1.

DIVISION TWO

v Kensington at Don Klaebe Field 20/10/23

WON 7-6

Ground breaking first run for the new season for the girls when Di crossed the plate and got us under way.  Di, Dakota, Christie and Alice shared the mound, and in a great last dig we scored the final three runs required to power home for the win.  Terrific stuff.

JUNIORS

Senior League (U17)

at DON klaebe Field 22/10/23  v Kensington

WON 17-2

The guys and gals are starting to show their strength against the opposition, and seem to be continuing on from their Premiership last year in the under 15's.  But, let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's a long season.  This team is fortunate enough to be coached by Nathan Nicholson, Shane Nicholson and our standout import Drew Janssen.  Boy - they really listen when he instructs them.  Hits today  :  Noah Atkinson 2, Ollie Hayes, Diesel Fallon, Matthew Nanasi, Lachlan Stock, Jack Robson 1.  Pitchers were Ollie and Diesel.

Under 15(1) lost to GGCD and Under 15(2) lost to Adelaide.

Under13 Little League had a good win, but Under 11 just got pipped by the one run.
