This week the focus is all on the two lower grades, namely Divs 6 and 7, because of the milestone games for Craig Reval (500) and Craig Mortimore (700).

DIVISION SIX

The sign that the kids brought to the diamond said it all - "Happy 500th game Rev".  Craig played a significant part in the win on his big occasion, and having his old mate over from Melbourne, Tony Page, making a cameo performance added to the day.  They had to fight like blazes and come from behind, but guts it out they did.  While Marso toiled away on the mound, the boys hit well for their 14-11 victory over Henley and Grange.  Hits: Sully, Cam, Flash, Marso 2, Rev, Behr, Scotty Geyer, Nicko 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Defeated Henley and Grange 10-2.  I

t was Craig Mortimore's 700th appearance for the Senators and he had a hell of a day, he did it all.  Two hits, one error, one K2, one sprained ankle and one tumble at home plate. Congrats. Man of the match however was Nick McCormack - his winning pitcher game consisted of 86 pitches, nine strike outs and he also chimed in with a double and two singles. There was plenty of Lodges at the game, at least six, to recognise Craig, and also Glen Lodge who was playing his 700th for H&G to go along with his 200 for Woodville in the past.  Scores were level for a while, but we powered away at the end for a real good win.  Hits: Nick 3, Noel Watson, Craig, Lawrie Moore 2, Derek Milne, Keith Mortimore, Behr 1.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE - Drew with Glenelg 11-11, a big tick seeing we got thumped by them earlier in the season, and were in a winning position to win this one.  Carly was a star coming off her sick bed to hit three doubles, but young Alyssa Lasscock got the accolades with four hits.  Louise also hit a double and singles were hit by Rachel Coutie, Leah Turner, Darna Veen and Catie Berry.

DIVISION FOUR

Lost to Glenelg 1-22.

DIVISION ONE Twilight 7.01.20 at Don Klaebe Field vs Adelaide

Lost 0-11.

Top of the second and our guys just had a nightmare inning conceding eight runs with multiple errors compounding themselves.  We couldn't run them down in squeeze plays, and the defence in general was awful, but, conversely, showed patches of brilliance with some nice plays.  The Angels didn't hit all that well, but then, neither did we except perhaps for Wade Moore who continued his hitting streak from the last few games.  If we could bring home all the runners we leave on bases, scores might be a bit different.  Hits: Wade Moore 2, Todd Dunstall, Tom Dineen 1, and Gary started with Rhett, Troy and Ethan in relief.

DIVISION ONE vs East Torrens at Don Klaebe Field 12.01.21

Lost 0-11

We were all set to celebrate Gary Owen's 200th game for the Senators, but the Redsox had other ideas and gave us a pasting with nine runs in two innings - a scenario that has become all too familiar of late.  Rhett had them under control at 0-2 when he came out, but then the aforementioned run fest occured, and we were powerless to control them, with again, errors contributing largely.  Gary Owens pulled off one of his characteristic brilliant catches to give us our highlight for the day, but seriously, what an ornament he has been in all his 200 games for the Senators.  A true gentleman in every sense, he has contributed enormously over the years, especially when we were making grand finals on a regular basis.  Well done Gary.  We had two hits for the day, both to Troy Nicholson, and after Rhett pitched, Gary, Troy and Ethan gave it a go.  We have now scored one run in our past three games and it was a Gary Owens home run - not a recipe for success.

DIVISION TWO vs East Torrens at Don Klaebe Field 12.01.20

WON 7-3

This was a tighter game than perhaps the scores indicate.  The Redsox headed us early, but with Harrison Kiss and Troy Nicholson both hitting doubles, we snatched the lead off them and then made four runs in the fifth, with Ryan Marsland's double paving the way.  ET would't be denied and continued to play hard, but when Nat Nicholson relieved Rhys and Will Kortekaas belted a triple, they were done.  A handy result, with finals still in the frame.  Hits:  Troy Nicholson 3, Will Kortekaas, Ryan Marsland 2, Harrison Kiss, Rhys Owen, Jackson Sowton 1.

DIVISION ONE vs Sturt at Don Klaebe Field 5.01.20

Lost 1-12

We all know Sturt's hitting potential, and they put one over in the first just to confirm the fact.  Gary likewise in the second to record our only run for the day, but we held them well for the next four innings with Nathan Nicholson keeping them under a tight reign, before their hitting power came to the fore and they amassed eight runs in the next two, errors assisting Sturt.  Nathan gave way to his brother Troy, who in turn gave Rhett a shot, and Ethan closed.  We only had the four hits, and we put people on bases often enough, but couldn't get them home.  Hits: Gary Owens (HR) 2, Nathan Nicholson, Wade Moore 1.

DIVISION TWO vs Sturt at Don Klaebe Field 5.01.20

Lost 8-9

After the overnight rain, the ground crew had the diamond ready in pristine condition for a start, and we powered away with three runs after Wade's first of two doubles for the game scored two. They whittled us back one run at a time, then got another three to hit the lead in the fourth, but good running by Travis Joblin got us closer and in the last we scored two to be one behind, and were a bit stiff in the end not to bring home the bacon.  We have dropped behind the leaders on the ladder, and will have to knuckle down and fight hard for the rest of the season to play finals.  Hits: Wade Moore 3, Richard Olson, Harrison Kiss, Ethan Marchioro 1.

DIVISION FOUR vs Adelaide @ DSP

Lost 0-8

The boys got a chance to play at the Headquarters of SA Baseball at West Beach, and whilst beaten, put up a creditable performance and were unlucky not to score a few runs.  There are a few older heads in the team giving guidance to the others, and it is looking so much better.  Hits: Blake, Josh and Miles all had a hit each, and Miles took a blinder of a catch at centre field, worthy of anything seen at a Giants game.

No juniors this week, but I caught up with the results from the last U11's game played before Christmas when they defeated Sth. Districts 9-3.  Nathan hit two doubles, and Dakota and Noah each hit one double, while Oliver had two hits and Jacob one.  The pitching was a treat, with Oliver and Lincoln each striking out four, and Archie three.

DIVISION ONE vs Kensington away

Lost 2-13

We got off to a pretty good start by putting one on the board in the first with Todd and Ethan both hitting, and held this lead until the fourth with Rhett keeping their big hitters quiet.  A couple of errors gave them three in the fourth, but we were not prepared for the onslaught that occurred next dig.  They piled on ten with power hitting - two two run homers and plenty of big hits.  Rhett sat down and it was left to Ethan to weather the storm. A late run to us after Ethan and Gary both hit, but the game was called after seven.  Over the last four games we have faced Goodwood, Glenelg, Sturt and Kensington - all last year's finalists - for a 2/2 result.  The talent is there, perhaps the consistency is not yet.  Hits  :  Ethan Marchioro 2, Todd Dunstall, Gary Owens, Tom Dineen, Jackson Sowton and Harrison Kiss 1 - his first hit in Div One - congratulations.

DIVISION TWO vs Kensington away

Lost 5-6

Once again we got off to a flyer with Jacko hitting and getting pushed all the way around, and two more in the second saw their pitcher off.  Troy was killing them with great pitching and picking off, but then, the old enemy, errors, gave them three to equallise.  A huge home run by Troy quietened their vocal bench for a while, and we got in front courtesy of the two coaches (Richard and Troy).  What happened next defies description - Kensington scored the required runs for the victory amid huge confusion at home plate, but you take nothing away from the superb effort of Harrison Kiss in this game - two singles and a double.  We once again left too many runners stranded which is a worrying trait.  Hits  :  Harrison Kiss 3, Troy Nicholson 2, Jackson Sowton, Brayden Marchioro, Richard Olson, Jarrod Marsland 1.

DIVISION FOUR

Gave a much improved performance in going down to the strong H&G outfit 3-8

DIVISION SIX

Won an entertaining game against Adelaide 10-7, a game in which everybody contributed with the bat, and Behr and Knuckles did the job from the hill.  Hits  :  Steve Couzner 4, James Stradling 3, Grant Behrendt, Andrew Sullivan, Cameron Britcher, Tim Fawcett 2, Brett Teakle, Nick McCormack 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Played Adelaide and lost 2-13, in a game that was there for the taking, but leaving ten runners on base didn't help.  Casey Moore made a welcome return to pitching and the hits were one each to Derek Milne, Casey Moore, Shane Nicholson, Nick McCormack, Tim Russell and Aldo McCormack got two.

UNDER 17's

Under the guidance of Gary Owens went up to Golden Grove and were comfortable winners 9-5.  The boys are making for a finals spot, and so far, looking ok.  Johnny VonSenden pitched, and Cody Tape got two his, with Blake O'Brien, Harrison Kiss and Johnny VonSenden each bagging one.

UNDER 13's fell agonisingly short of victory by one run against Kensington 12-13. Toby Kortekaas pitched well and had two hits, whilst Ben Bynoe and Katya Schmakar had two and Zach Stanmeyne one.

UNDER 11's defeated Southern Blues 9-3 in what appeared to be a good contest.

UNDER 9's

Had a great game against Glenelg and won 37-32 in what was obviously a run fest. These early morning starts are OK for the parents when the coffee kicks in, and the kids take it in their stride.  They are really improving their skills, both in hitting and in general play. The stars were Lily, Ella, James, Sienna, Poppy, Royce, Kylah and Tucker.
