DIVISION ONE Away v Sturt

Lost 3-5

Last years premiers are a formidable team, but we took it up to them, and had them looking worried at the end when we came back like a steam train.  It was a dusty day at "The Dome" and in an error free display, we proved we can match it with any side.  The Saints held a two run lead for most of the day, and increased it to four in the eighth courtesy of a Tyrell Joyce homer.  Top nine, and they thought they had it, but Troy Nicho had other ideas and planted one over, to be followed by Gary's fence rattling hit.  Got to within a couple but couldn't bridge the gap to make them bat again.  Rhett Feser had a good day on the mound, at one point sitting down Lee, Roeger and Joyce in the one inning with only the minimum of pitches.  Hits: Troy Nicholson, Gary Owens, Jackson Sowton 2, Ethan Marchioro, Tom Dineen, Wade Moore 1.

DIVISION TWO Away v Sturt

Draw 4-4

A terrific, tight game highlighted by some fine pitching - take a bow Rhys.  It was also great to see our boys come alive with the bats, getting six hits in the third, producing three runs.  Unfortunately, we gave them back in the fifth, but against the top of the table Saints, this was a good effort.  The Club Coach, Richard Olson, proved that he can handle the bat after his rest, and was right in the mix all day.  Hits: Richard Olson, Troy Nicholson 2, Jackson Sowton, Brayden Marchioro, Rhys Owen, Vic Benveltzen, Will Kortekaas, Ryan Marsland 1.

DIV FOUR played Goodwood and lost 1-11.

DIV SIX

Played Port at home and after holding them pretty well for most of the day, succumbed in the end to lose 8-13.  Sully wasn't too keen on having several catches grassed, making life on the mound difficult, having to get five outs every inning.  Hope it's just a blip, because finals are a distinct chance.  Hits: Behr 3, Marso, Teakle 2, Couz, Sully 1.

DIV SEVEN

Also played Port at home but came away with the better result winning 10-9, with several of the boys putting in fine performances.  Morty and Nick were good on the hill, and young Aldo is a real improver. A great team effort.  Hits: Nick McCormack 3, Tim Fawcett, Keith Mortimore, Noel Watson, Aldo McCormack, Lawrie Moore 2, Derek Milne, Craig Mortimore 1..

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

Played GGCD and stitched them up 17-3, with eyes well and truly set on finals in the new year.  Kenzi was playing her final game due to an employment change, and they let her pitch the last inning.  Stick to batting kiddo.  The girls were fantastic and showed their true potential.  Hits: Leah Turner 4, Carly Moore 3, Louise Bartle 2, Darna Veen, Kenzi StGeorge, Alyssa Lasscock ,Catie Barry, Megan Brownbill 1.

UNDER 17

Made the trek to Gawler and found it to their liking by winning 29-2.  In the absence of regular pitchers Jonny VonSenden and Owen Williams, Aldo McCormack and Cody Tape did the honours and performed well.  Two in the park home runs to Harrison Kiss summed up the day.  Hits: Harrison Kiss 6, Blake O'Brien, Aldo McCormack, Alex Black 3, Hunter Jeffries, Barry Eime 2.

Under 13

Had a draw against a Gawler Rangers team.  Toby Kortekaas pitched and had a hit, as did Zach Stanmeyne. Result 13-13.

Under 11

Played the Indians at West Beach and heartbreakingly lost by one 8-9.  Dakota and Jacob hit doubles, and Chace, Oliver, Archie and Remy all hit singles. Oliver just knocks up striking out the opposition, having four, and Archie struck out two.

DIVISION ONE - had a bye

DIVISION TWO  - Away vs Gawler

WON 8-2

On a stinking hot day in Gawler and in a game subsequently shortened to ninety minutes, we prevailed and had a handy win.  We got a couple early due to opportunism and a lack of awareness by the locals, but then left runners on for the next few innings.  The bats woke up in the fourth when Ryan's bleeder put him on first, and Brayden's hit, Jimmy Chu's double and Wade's double  all brought in runs.  One of their big blokes put one over at this stage after Deuce was relieved, but the scare was short lived, as we went on our merry way with Will hitting a welcome double (the smiles lit up the diamond).  He got home on a wild throw, then Jacko picked himself up a double bagger and Deuce knocked in a RBI.  A very comprehensive win.  Hits: Jimmy Chu 2, Brayden Marchioro,Wade Moore, Will Kortekaas, Fan Deyuu, Jackson Sowton 1.

DIVISION FOUR

Not feeling a lot of joy at the moment scorewise, but putting up a fair dinkum effort every week, and went down to Phil Hirchausen's Golden Grove outfit.

DIVISION SIX

Had a really competitive game against the Bays and came away 10-6 winners on the back of Marso and Sully's pitching and good solid hitting - no details unfortunately.  The boys got their noses in front early and led 3-0, but Glenelg fought back and went to a one run lead.  Then we produced a seven run dig, and put the game away, keeping our ladder spot looking good.

DIVISION SEVEN

Without the injured Coach, the boys were looking for a win to put it up him, but against the ever stealing Flinders, it was not to be.  We left too many stranded to be in contention, but had a moment when Morty Snr came on to pitch.  Sick of this eternal stealing, he used his experience to pick one off, and wipe a smile or two off their faces.  We lost 0-8, with the lack of hitting not helping, only Nick McCormack (2) and Derek Milne (1) contributing.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

Lost to Goodwood 9-14.

Got away to a flyer with the maximum allowed five in the first but the Goody girls caught up and won in the end with what has been described as a lucky play.  Oh well - win some, lose some.  Hits:  I know Carly got one, Louise also and Alyssa, and Darna got two with a home run, but, I'm sorry, my writing late on Saturday night at the Band Night has let me down.  There was a couple of others who I can't decipher.

All junior games on the Sunday were cancelled due to the heat policy.

DIVISION ONE vs Glenelg at Don Klaebe Field 1/12/19

WIN 4-3

A terrific last ditch win in a game that was hard fought and close all day.  We gifted them a run in the first with a muffed play at first, but equaled in the third after Gary showed his pace.  We had our chances in the fifth and sixth when we loaded the bases with only one out but failed to put runs on the board.  Rhett, who had a great day on the mound, came off after six but stayed on the field and made a nuisance of himself in the batting box long enough to enable us to score and tie the game going into the bottom of the ninth.  So we again loaded the bases, but this time Ethan put the ball into play and Jimmy Chu bolted home for the win.  Gary did a fine job of closing, and all the boys can hold their heads high after this one.  Goodwood and Glenelg in successive weeks - well done boys.  Hits : Todd Dunstall, Ethan Marchioro 2, Gary Owens, Tom Dineen, Rhys Owen, Brayden Marchioro 1.

DIVISION TWO vs Glenelg at Don Klaebe Field 1/12/19

Lost 2-13

In a very ordinary game, we held the Bays after a poor start for a few innings, but they ran away with it in the end.  We had some great highlights, namely a fine outfield catch by Jimmy Chu and some terrific work at shortstop by Troy Nicholson, but overall the standard was not really up to scratch.  Hits : Troy Nicholson 2, Jimmy Chu, Jackson Sowton, Harrison Kiss 1.

DIVISION FOUR played the powerful Henley and Grange team and went down 4-17, in what was an improvement all round.

DIVISION SIX had a masterful win over Norths 15-8 in a game that had all players contributing.  They are really finding their feet in this competition - up a grade from their premiership last year. Now it remains to keep it going.  Hits : Cam Britcher, Scott Geyer, Tim Fawcett 2 (Tim hit his maiden triple), Cuz, Behr, Sully, Marso, Dornie, Knuckles 1.

DIVISION SEVEN also played the Reds but with a different result, losing 7-12, playing catch-up baseball all day.  They started OK, with Casey playing his part on the mound, and Nicko gave them a boost with his in the park home run, but Dornie didn't cross the plate as often as he did last week, but generally the bats were all right, a little tightening up in the field wouldn't hurt.  Hits : Tony Brownbill 3, James Stradling, Nick McCormack (HR), Aldo McCormack, Casey Moore 2, Derek Milne, Tim Fawcett 1.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

The girls had the unenviable task of going deep south in a gloomy evening, but came home with the points, defeating Southern Districts 8-2.  The standout, apart from the usual stalwarts of Carly and Darna, was Alyssa Lasscock with three hits.  She is a prodigious talent for a youngster, and one to watch.  Louise Bartle also got a hit. Looking good girls.

UNDER 17

Two games for these kids this week, the first being a win on Tuesday evening against Kensington 10-1, a side that we drew with earlier in the season.  Johnny Von Senden was dynamic on the mound and gave them nothing, whilst the hitting was good, with Blake O'Brien cracking two doubles, and Bailey Gibbs having two hits, Owen Williams one and Johnny Von Senden one.

The second game for the week was against top of the table H & G, and after a neck and neck opening, the Ram's boys pulled away when Johnny started to tire.  He was replaced by Harrison Kiss who did his darndest, and we came home like a steam train, only to get knocked off 7-10.  A couple of errors in the field didn't help.  Hits :  Harrison Kiss (one double, one triple), Cody Tape 2, Blake O'Brien, Johnny Von Senden 1. (Both doubles)

UNDER 13 Lost to GGCD 9-15

UNDER 11's went down to Norths 2-12 and they were not happy.  Expect a solid game next week.  Matthew, Archie and Chase had six strikeouts between them, and Lincoln, along with a great catch, got a hit, along with Chase and Dakota had a RBI.

UNDER 9

A cold start to the day, but all stayed positive and played some top baseball in a high scoring contest.  The training is coming through in some real baseball plays.  Nice Coaching.
